nj car title questions
i baught my 300zx about a month ago and i had a problem with the title... basically the old owner signed it but never registered it and moved to kentucky, and left it for his family to sell. i got a new title ! but the way i had to do it was sell it to a used car delaership and buy it back for 500.00 including tax. so now the title is clean, im just wondering if there is a point of time when they void the whole title for nowt being registered with in a set amount of time. when you buy a car from a car lot it basically comes with some wierd sheet of paper thats dated with the day of purchase the dealers stamp, and the last line where you sign your name. its been 30 days and i havent got it registered.... the tranny is out of the car so its not moving anywhere and its not insured so i cant title it until its insured... didnt mean to ramble but i jsut wanted to give as much info as i could. the dmv wouldnt tell me anything other then you have 10 days and after that its 25.00... so im not sure if they ever void it after x amount of days :bigeek:

I have bought a bunch of cars from Jersey and transferred to PA. All I needed was a hand written bill of sale, which I am guessing is the piece of paper you are referring to. Is the Jersey title in your name now? If so you should be set.

nope the titles not in my name right now i have the title and the seller dated and signed it but that was about 30 days ago i havent registered it yet :\ i havent registered it since i heard you need insurance on the car at the time of transferring a new title as well as registering. only reason im concerned is because i cant afford ot have 2 cars on my insurance at once and since my 300zx is taken apart at the moment theres no reason to insure it. i thaught there might be crazy penelty like them voiding the title if i had the car for 2 months beofre transferring the ownership to my self. ill try to make it more clear i baught a car and i havnet registered it or even titled in my name yet the bill of sale was dated over a month ago, i cant afford ot insure 2 cars at once, i know after 10 days its 25.00 i thaught there might be something liek them not accepting the title after a certian amount. im proably explianing this really bad lol

My corolla is titled in my name and it hasn't been registered or insured yet? They'll title a car for you no problem. Once the corolla is ready for the road it'll be registered and insured. Was the z bought in nj as well? You don't need to show proof of bill of sale. I've never had to do that. When I purchased cars out of state the seller and I would just go to a notary and get the title notarized and I'd be set.

You can do a title transfer without insurance. Kinda like buying a project car and puttting in in storage. If you want a plate and to be able to drive it, you need in surance to register. Purchasing and registerings are 2 different things.

The only worries you have is your temp plate has since expired.
