856jersey 10-13-2009 10:44 PM

looks awesome

Jjaeger240 10-13-2009 11:15 PM

You paid 800 for that? :bigeek:

What tubing is that? Why are the base plates for the rear cross on the rear seat panel? Bends in the rear down bars also aren't legal for anything, even drag racing.

Not trying to hate, but man, this thing is not legal for anything for so many reasons. I have no idea why someone who works for "some race team" would design anything like this.

delphinE30 10-13-2009 11:23 PM

what do you mean by legal?? legal by not being built to specs??
and again.... the reason for the rear bars is because of the sub box. he didnt want it like that but its the best he could get with how the trunk is set up with the sub box, and with the fuel pump being there i need some access room to get to it.
nah its all good dude. i dont mind you putting on your 2 cents. ive had guys rip on this cage already and i only had it for a little over a day.
o and i took it to a shop that builds cages, but they couldnt do it at the time so they sent it to the guy that builds cages for them. thats probly y it was more. it was taken from one shop to another. it wasnt planned that way.

Jjaeger240 10-13-2009 11:32 PM

Legal as in doesn't meet NHRA/SCCA/FD/HPDE/any track that requires a roll cage standards.

I'm not giving you crap as in its the not end-all greatest cage ever, but if your point behind it was to comply with a certain motorsport's rulebook, it doesn't.

delphinE30 10-13-2009 11:34 PM

nah dude for one i dont race it. and its def not doing anything near 10s in the quarter haha. but once i clean it up itll look sick at shows. the rest of the rear end is getting cleaned up as well.

Rear bars are allowed to have a 30* bend in them now... as long as the bends are under 30* he will be fine (in addition he has the X brace to the seat/floor as well). As long as the down bars mount to the rear floor with only that 1 bend of less then 30* with a 6"x6" .125" plate minimum, he's good.

OBEEWON 10-14-2009 07:54 AM

What size tubing are those X bars?

Uhhh....what rule book is that? No one lets that fly, even lkt who will let me get away with pool noodles as cage padding and covering spots of PVC tubing in the door bars because there wasn't enough bracing to the NASCAR bars.

Regardless, the X is supportive of the main hoop, not the down bars which leave them rulebook-wise "useless". On top of that, based on the pictures it looks like the X is not even an X--it's just two diagonal downbars that don't conjoin. No diagonal in the main hoop would also only pass in a very few organizations due to side impact hazard.

And as OBEEWON and myself have brought up, what tubing is that? Eyeballing through pictures alone it doesn't look passable for anything.

But the original poster has made it clear that the cage is a....show piece....so it's not important what rules it follows anyway, just needs to look boss.

i dont want to be an ass, but i feel like you could have gotten a pretty decent cage for 800. i dont know much about cages, but i feel like you got screwed

delphinE30 10-15-2009 12:05 AM

i dont konw the size of the bars. or what for sure its made of lol. what you see in the pics is pretty much what i got to see. ill check everything out tomorrow maybe if i got time. between fixing some moldings and possibly ripping my tint off for the po po ugh
sorry just a lot going on at the moment.
o and the x bars do join.

You can get a cheaply made ROLL BAR for 800$ but certainly not a CAGE.

As for the pipe...Most road racing sanctions want 1.75in .120wall DOM now. Most Drag racing sanctions will let u get away with 1.5in .095wall chromeoly and i believe 1.75in .10wall DOM but it varies on what kind of cage it is.

The rear X-brace is very poorly positioned. It should of been made much wider but the top should of mated with the main hoop on the horizonal part of the hoop, not the vertical part.

it does meet with the horizontal part. i thought it should have met right at the angle. well the dude said its certified like everyone of is cages/bars. and if it isnt i hope the racecars he buils are lol.
not that its a huge deal cuz like ive stated before im not racin. and if i do my car isnt fast enough yet hahahaha

TurboTagTeam 10-16-2009 01:21 PM

It's not certified untill a inspector looks at it and slaps a certification sticker on it.
