turbo questions - exhaust housing bolt pattern and divided setups
I have a manifold and downpipe setup with a t3 flanged 50 trim turbo. the exhaust housing is 5 bolt but the downpipe is 4 bolt. Can I bolt up a 4 bolt downpipe to this turbo? my idea is to drill and tap for a 4th bolt since it looks as if from the naked eye, three should bolt right up
Also can you buy a new exhaust manifold with a divided housing and mate it up to a non divided turbo? will you see benefits of the twin scroll or not? |
apparently, im retarded
how about a good seal joke... or something |

What do you plan on doing for gaskets with regards to the downpipe/hotside flange? Your best bet would be having a new flange welded on to the downpipe. The divided housing of a manifold is for a twinscroll setup. You would be running twin wastegates that create a certain pulse for the exhaust gasses. If you are running a non divided turbo (ie single scroll) you aren't going to see any gains. And vice-versa. It is just going to cost you more money. |
There are companies that make conversion flanges. Try www.Himniracing.com. They specialize in RX-7's but they sell all kinds of turbo flanges and adapters. Thats where I got the adapter for my GT42 compressor outlet flange adapter.

ATP also makes all sorts of adapters. Not sure if they make a 5 bolt to 4 bolt adapter, but here's a 5 bolt to V-band if you might consider welding a V-band on your downpipe
