Fujito 09-19-2009 11:16 PM

What's it made out of? Gold?

evomike 09-19-2009 11:24 PM

Ha my uncle has 2 of them I'm gonna show him this tomorrow

Proven 09-20-2009 01:21 AM

I guess they figure if someones dumb enough to buy any mustang they can get away with charging 20k for a hood :-p

(just messing of course)

KEVN257 09-20-2009 01:48 AM

i actually read the whole thread and its just ridiculous

blkZ06 09-20-2009 02:23 AM

its not that out of this world if its exotic, but since its a ford...LOL

the front carbon fiber hood section of a Porsche GT is 80,00... knowing this because I had to assemble one as a tech..

the "cool" hood on my Viper was $11,000 but it was aftermarket

a stock hood fetching 20K is a ****ing joke Ford couldn't make money on it

evomike 09-20-2009 02:43 AM

But it's not a ford hood is it? Doesn't the car get shipped to Shelby and he does that stuff. I know very little about theese things but I'd say it's Shelby marking that up not ford.

bmatyeah 09-20-2009 07:18 AM

they dont want anyone to have the hood? i dont see why thats so crazy. The broken ones have to go back so they cannot be copied. They also find out how or why the hood failed.

I doubt your uncle has TWO authentic KR's.

correct in that this is SAI's hood and policies. And I don't believe Carroll actually has anything to do with SAI either, other than having signed some contracts giving the company rights to use and sell his name. Figure, the guy is way old and rich at this point that he doesn't work. and if he's involved at all, i doubt its to the extent of making design and performance decisions. Its probably a, "this is what are people came up with, we want you to take pictures with it and GTFO"

thats all well and good, but not entirely the point of the thread. SAI is running circles around a customer of theirs who have a legit claim and have gone through the process SAI has put in place. They're just plain being assholes about it. They finally shipped a new hood to the guy, but it arrived damaged due to improper packing and refused to acknowledge any wrong doing. meanwhile, Ford itself has contacted the owner and is doing what they can to assist him... however SAI is independent of Ford as far as i know and does not need to cooperate when Ford makes a request.

and as far as not wanting anyone to copy the hood...

http://www.visracing.com/newcatalog/...bon-Fiber-Hood

and nothing failed here, the guy hit an animal... i assume a deer, but i don't believe the type of animal was told. this should have been a relatively simple insurance claim that no one on the internet should have gotten wind of, except for maybe the price of the hood

twastheglow 09-20-2009 08:09 AM

**** Ford for those kinds of shenanigans!

EDIT: **** SAI. lol

lownslow95 09-20-2009 08:23 AM

Can't the guy just get regular 06+ GT parts, and make it a kinda sleeper? Or are they manufactured that they have a different way of fitting on the mustang? Those prices seem to be a bit outrageous for some body parts and a bit of paint work.

**** that!!!! If I paid that kind of $$ for a car...I want THAT car's body parts!

lownslow95 09-20-2009 08:37 AM

I'd want it to be a sleeper. Or would you be able to go to an aftermarket setup, as it might be cheaper to get them then dealing directly with Shelby and spending $21,000 on a goddamn hood.

Yeah, but from what I understand, the KR package is ONLY body parts/looks. It's the same drivetrain as the GT500. So the ONLY reason people buy that car is for the looks/exclusivity/collectability (is there is any), etc.

lownslow95 09-20-2009 08:43 AM

Then the smart thing to do would be buy GT500 hood, and call it a day. But thats just me, and I wouldn't waste that kind of money for a little incident like what this guy is going through. It would be easier, and cheaper.

Scapegoat 09-20-2009 08:46 AM

insurance is taking care of it.

you don't buy a car like that to be a sleeper... and the rest of the car gives it away anyway. i also guarantee if you had that car you wouldn't be removing body parts and emblems to make it a sleeper and thus destroying any possible value the vehicle would have in the future.

ultimately, the cost of the hood, while incredibly ridiculous (i think its been reduced to just shy of 9k before tax due to this whole ordeal), is not the point. Its just a nice eye catcher to get people to look at the thread and see whats going on. This guy hasn't been able to drive his car in 2 months because SAI is dicking this guy over despite having all the proper documentation AND raising the issue to the world. Poor business ethics and poor customer service is the point.

debating over the price is moot. most of us can't fathom spending much more than that on a car itself, and the insurance company is covering the costs

lownslow95 09-20-2009 08:49 AM

What the hell is SAI?

some of them came with additional upgrades to the supercharger system from ford racing i believe... i think they could be had with around 700hp...

but you are predominately correct. its a 40th anniversary addition of the original 1968 gt500kr
