AJ's American Iron 99 Mustang road race build. Surge tank install
So a little background of what American Iron is. There is a 9.5:1 weight to power ratio so the engine doesn't have to be anything exotic which keeps costs down. everyone runs on a spec tire also. a 3000 pound car only needs to make 325 to the wheels which can be done for not that much. (im shooting for a race weight of 2800) Heres the site if you want to know more. http://www.americanironracing.com//
so being a mustang guy, I obviously am building a mustang. the cobra R stuff came with the car in the deal i made, which is good cause it is actually functional so i don't have to spend money on that. I have a saleen rear bumper and side skirts if anyone is interested PM me. Not much going on now. Did the body kit cause i had them, and in the process of gutting the interior and scraping all that tar paper/sound deadener stuff off. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ugust09003.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ugust09001.jpg front bumper took a good amount of trimming to get to fit nice. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ugust09014.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ugust09015.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ugust09016.jpg Im looking for 4 17x9 cobra rims, an FIA certified race seat, and a nice racing steering wheel. PM me if anyone has anything. |
Lookin good AJ, all that Cobra R stuff will look great when it's painted, are you sticking with black? Why not get the R58 17x9 wheels that I have brand new, you can easily find them for $150 per and you'll know they haven't been abused. After seeing that cracked MM Konig wheel on Coral, I'm not screwing around with used wheels any more :)

what motor is in the car? are you swapping?

that rim thing is scary. thats why i'll most likely stick with some cobras.
|
Yup, same here :)

had some time to play with the fenders. felt like exercising my fabrication skills. still gotta finish them obviously.

Nice work man! Keep it up.
|
Sweet! Glad you were able to find a car.
+1 on the R58s. Cheap and won't break. |
i have 2 deals in the works on a set of 4 with no tires and a set of 4 with R888's on them.

some more custom fiberglass work on the hood. should help with heat, but more for underhood air pressure.
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ugust09017.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ust09016-1.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ugust09018.jpg made the templates out of some thin sheet metal from a scrap hood. then covered with 2 layers of fiberglass mat. finally had to put money out on this project. up to 50 bucks for a can of self etching primer and all the fiberglass materials. next up is a front splitter. already in the works but i'll just take pictures of it finished. |
pretty cool man. cant wait to see the end result
|
Subscribed...Its nice to see a mustang meant to go around corners. You can have so much fun with a mustang for relatively cheap compared to some cars.
|
Nice start off, good luck with the build
|
Damn looking sweet man!
