So i've made a decision...need some opinions...
I was gonna go to school full time this semester, and work full-time at my job with lowes making 11.94 like i've been making for the past year. It pays the bills, but can't really get too ahead of myself.
So a job opening came up for a different position at another lowes which is a promotion for me. I applied for the job, interviewed, and got it. With this new job I am going to be going to school part-time this year and working full time. I will be now making 14.18 an hour compared to 11.94. I have a supercharged cobalt...its a good car, the ecotec engine is really reliable, has 40700 miles on it and not one hic-up yet. I take care of it regularly, always wash my car like once a week, and change my oil as needed. But I have been really interested in the new EVO X's and STi's. I really like the way they look, both cars are really nice. I was going to save up and buy a motorcycle next summer, but I think instead what I am going to do is save up, and trade in my cobalt next summer on either a new evo or sti. What do you all think? Or should i just pay off my car and save my money instead of having another car payment? |

Really it comes down to how much your payments would be. $14/hour is still not all that much to be making payments on an Evo X or an STI. Not to mention insurance on top of it.
|
umm... if I were you, I'd keep the Cobalt, get your degree then get the Evo/STI as a graduation gift to yourself.

don't make a largish financial decision based on the assumption that you will still have this job long term, that would be my $.02. keep the current car, concentrate on school and save your money. $14/hr is a nice deal, but you aren't rich. don't live outside your means.

I wouldn't make any big purchases until you are done college. You may run into an issue with your job and having a car payment on another car may bite you in the ass.
I would save buying a car until you are done college and have a descent job lined up. So many of my friends made the bad mistake of buying this/that new right away and are now kicking themselves in the face. |
I wouldn't do it.
Economy is ****ing bad and you never know whats gonna happen. Even though I can afford it I am gonna have to seriously think about wether or not I buy a xkr in 5 months. I really don't think we have seen the worst of it yet so save your pennies. |
lol you moron... $14/hr and looking at 40k cars?

I figure since a car is a hobby to me anything up to a weeks pay a month is ok as far as buying a car. But I also don't own a house right now.
$12 and hour for 40 hours minus taxes and you can spend $400 a month for car and insurance on a car. |
We shouldn't be making fun of him cause he asked for legit advise. Think back when you were that age, we all would of wanted the new car tooo. Half of us just bought that car and screwed ourselfs nad learned. The other half watches other screw up. Best of luck OP!

Dont do it.... if ANYTHING you might be able to afford a used 04 STi or Evo 8.. Dont even dream of a new one at 14 bucks a hour... Mods arent cheap either and i know your looking to mod it since your on this site.
I bought a new one and wish i waited a little bit and bought slightly used to save on cash. 14 bucks a hour isnt much man these days. U got gas, insurance, car payments, girlfriend payments and all kinds of crap. When i bought my STi brand new i was making 70K |
when i got my evo IX brand new in 06 i was making 14.50/hr and i had 10k to put down and with the good credit i had my payments where $477 and on top of that my insurance was outrageous!!
|
Dude you guys are crazy. I fret $20K on a used bimmer and I don't make small $$. Save your money. Loans are evil.

You already have a nice car to keep you happy for now.
Get your degree(s). Get a good job (by the time you finish your degree and combined with your loyalty to Lowe's, you may be able to move into corporate). Buy a starter house. Then buy a new car. I had two Tauruses and a Chevy Lumina mini van before I could afford what I wanted without worrying about making ends meet. |
You won't be able to afford it.
