honest oppinions here
Keep the boosted GA or sell it and get something else...
I ran my car without first gear and a very bad boost leak, I blew my exhaust gaskets after the manifold before turbo, ran a 14.013 @ 103. motor was stock, just bigger injectors and a halfass tune. most guys with stock motor/trans boosted GA run low 13s on street tires.\ My buddy has a grand am se(different geared tranny a lot crappier than the GT) he ran a 13.3 @ 112 and my car was slightly faster, my 0-60 launch is in the 4s and his is in the 5s, so I probably could make up time there, I could also downgrade the turbo to like a .63 ar housing would probably get me boosting around 2-2.2k right now i only start spooling at 2.7 I got a new motor on the way and I have a new transmission in the basement waiting to get upgraded, and some new parts to replace the stock internals. like my friends srt4 maxing out his turbo with intake; tune; some stage 2 goodies, i used to wreck it on highway by a lot... he ran a 13.9 street tires spinning a lot. now i'm looking at an EVO or a GTO, If I bought the gto it would obviously be a 6.0 and I would sell my car and turbo and get a rear mount twin turbo, but you think that would be a little much for a street car? I mean the GA has a lot of petential and It is a sleeper. I know you guys are probably pretty biased on your cars but I don't know what decision to make. |
I love the idea of a sleeper... is cost an issue on this or what?.. I am not sure what exactly you are asking. I want to do an aps build on my car but I need a dd first. Right now i get between 15-16 avg mpg. On a TT setup ill get like 8.

im a fan of the evo but id keep the ga my buddy has one and id love them if they were 5spd ive never been a big automatic guy. Gto would be decent but twin turbo would be a lil over kill for a street car unless you were taking it to the track all the time or doing something with that sort
|
i'd get rid of the GA if you were running into major problems. Especially if its costing alot of money. I'd buy an already boosted car that's probably alot faster than the GA will ever be.
|
IMO: GA's are Domestic Rice Burners man.... no matter how "fast" it is.
I would go with the EVO or GTO, no need for a twin turbo though. Intake, headers and full exhaust, maybe cams will really unleash the NA potential of that SBC. You want more power on tap, just throw a 50 shot on it, no need for overkill on a TWin turbo V8 street car. :D GL! |
Gas TiresOil = my car. I would get a 2nd car before getting something insane. I spend about 45-50 bucks a week on gas.

my buddy as a 5.7 and its slow as balls... but the grand am is turning into a money pit to be honest. and my car is far from a ricer haha... it looks completely stock with a front mount and it sounds like a v8 with open downpipe. I was getting good mpg with my ga boosted as long as i didnt hit boost, but right now with problems with my current engine I get like 15 mpg.. I was averaging almost 30 highway. 20-25 city. and I would go to the track more often if I had a car that ran 11s or 12s lol.
|
and there is a tranny that bolts up to the 3400 its a 6 speed, and i think someone did a 5 speed berreta swap. well actually i know because it's the same guy i met in harrisburg to buy his old transmission.

yea i know what you mean, haha. thats the sad part... http://user.streetfire.net/profile/slograndam.htm like i got pics of it and stuff, the build and stuff is pretty successful, If i would sell it Id put a new motor in and spec everything, rebuid it all... and put a new fresh trans in it(have it replacing parts) try selling it for 4,000 and Ive already got offers for 2500 for my turbo kit.

There is no noticalbe difference between the 5.7 and the 60. GTO. Its a 50 hp in a 3800 pound car. Its a drivers race. |
He probably can't i've never drove with him, he lost to a hahn turbo'd cobalt LT
|
also had thoughts about turboing an eg but i dont have a garage to put it in, wouldnt be long for it to get stolen.
|
The 5.7 is lighter and can usually take the 6.0 but as said before it is a drivers race. Bigger is not always better.
|
My advice, I have the 5.7 and my g/f has the 6.0. They are both great cars. The 6.0 is nice if you want to keep it stock. If you are gonna mod, get the LS1. The 2500 dollar difference is clutch, headers, used 243 heads, cam with springs, and tune. That will bump you alot more the then the stock LS2 for the same price and give you the supportig mods to get yourself started.
As far as the WRX, I don't know much about them. I drove an STi. It was nice but after seeing the engine bay I wouldnt touch one. Looks like a PITA to fix. I'm assuming they are very similiar to th EVO |
how much is a 5.7 nowa days? like 14-15K?
|
You can get them for less then 12k now with 40k miles or so.
|
thats actually not bad... 6.0 or 5.7 ... i wanna do some research, but i loveee evo's i just dont know which one will be easier to work on.
