componet speaker recommendations?

Im thinking about upgrading my component speakers, since the factory ones leave a lot to be desired. I have a modest budget of about 50bucks that I would like to stay within for the front two speakers.
Im looking for something with good clarity and good bass response, to compliment the two 10in subs I have in the trunk. Any recommendations?

I have seen plenty of people on some of the car audio forums I follow praising these components performance despite their budget pricing. I know it's a bit outside of your $50 price range; but it's hard to get a component set at that low of a price. Oh and these are 6.5" speakers; I'm not sure if that is your stock size. Let me know what you decide. I just bought some new Polk components and have to install them. Maybe swing by the house and we can help each other?

took me a sec to realize it was you eric! haha
yeah i can swing by and help you install them, just need to order mine first.
those phoenix golds dont look too bad, since they come with crossovers and tweeters. my factory speakers are 6.5, but id have to double check if these tweeters fit my stock location.
what car audio forums do you recommend i check out for reviews on these?

I found out about them here: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/

Also keep in mind the mounting depth. These are 2.75" deep which may require you to run a MDF ring to give you extra mounting depth. I probably have some scrap MDF to make you some.

I also did a quick google search on the PG RSD65cs and came up with some positive reviews.

Looks like you'd get a slightly better deal than my previous post on Ebay (once shipping is factored in): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-PHO...CarQ5fSpeakers

nice. ill definitely have to make a ring/bracket to fit any aftermarket speaker. My actual factory speakers are 6.5 with an 8in plastic mounting around them, so fitting anything standard will be tricky.

i wonder if anyone local has the phoenix in their car that i could listen to. thats the one problem about buying speakers online. you never actually get to hear them before you buy them.

You can probably buy any 6.5 speaker and install it into that 8" () adapter.

I have some kenwood 6.5 2-ways you could try out that I took out of one of my cars. I'd probably let them go for $20. I was checking out your parallel thread at the celica site and it looks like that is all you were looking for (a 2-way speaker). What I posted was the cheapest component set (midbass, tweeter, and x-over) that seems to play decently.

yes. that's a good idea. forget his original post explaining that he's on a small budget and just wants something decent. i wish i would have thought to come in this thread and recommend $200+ speakers, then i could have felt cool. you got it all tho, not fair.
