Windows 7 Pre-Sale starts today!

I just wanted to let everyone know that the pre-orders for Windows 7 started today! If you pre-order, you can save of 50%!

Home Premium - $49.99
Professional - $99.99

There isn't any real reason for the average person to purchase the professional edition, and NO reason to buy Ultimate. Both are upgrades, but in all past versions of Windows, you could do a full install if you inserted an older OS disc (XP/Vista) during the install.

And if you arn't sure that you want it, download the free trial (Release Canidate 1, Windows 7 RC1) and install it! You won't be sorry.

I just ordered mine. I don't mind paying $49.99 for it...Now $100+, I am not quite sure...

I need Ultimate =(

Vypurr 06-26-2009 10:24 AM

Why? Do you really need all of that useless stuff? Do you use bit-locker?

The Ultimate for Vista is VERY different from the Ultimate for 7.

Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows 7 Ultimate contains the same features as Windows 7 Enterprise, but unlike that edition it will be available to home users on an individual license basis.[16] Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional users will be able to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate for a fee using Windows Anytime Upgrade if they wish to do so.[8] Unlike Windows Vista Ultimate, the Windows 7 Ultimate edition will not include the Windows Ultimate Extras feature or any exclusive features.[16] In specific markets this edition will be distributed under the Maximum moniker.[17]

Well, the RC is the Ultimate version and I use bitlocker on quite a bit of USB drives and external drives. Also, the addressable memory logarithms in W7 Ultimate x64 are built with AMD Phenoms in mind from articles I've read in the past from people testing them with W7 and talking to several devs.

Well good luck! It's too expensive for me!

Yeah, I agree. A bit too close to the price of a laptop. It doesn't come out until October, so I am sure the closer it gets the more Microsoft might be willing to listen to the community and maybe change pricing a bit or something. You can never know with that company. One second they're all about the consumer and the next they come out with these wacky changes to rules that make no sense to the consumer.

Hmm.. just got a laptop w/ vista. Is this worth upgrading?

It is totally worth it to upgrade. It is such a faster and more efficient system. It puts Vista to shame.

Nors 06-26-2009 11:06 AM

Well that sold me haha.. $50 bucks isn't bad at all either.

Vypurr 06-26-2009 11:07 AM

Yes. It's Vista...But done right this time. Most new computers and laptops sold from today and on will include a free version of Windows 7 on October 22nd (assuming your manufacturer buys into this program...it is expected that all major ones will).

Isn't Microsoft offering a free upgrade if you buy a new computer with Vista from July 26th or something like that?

EDIT: "Anyone buying a computer with Windows Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate from June 26th onwards will get a free upgrade to Windowns 7." Source, The Inquirer

so it really is worth jumping ship from vista to 7 on release?

most of the time people say, "don't upgrade right away". is it really going to be "problem free"? well... better than vista when it was released?

i'm down for upgraded to it if its not going to be trouble on release

and where are you ordering from?

With the RC program it was the first time they let an unlimited number of people test it. I get updates on the RC almost every day. They are blanks, but it still shows that Microsoft can update your system right away. So far I haven't run into a single "bug" or problem since downloading the RC the day it was available. It is such a good OS. And I have cubedesktop running so screw compiz.

Well, I think mine downloaded as an ISO or a .BIN file which can be burned by imaging software onto a DVD. That's what I did.
