clutch slave cylinder?

Ok I just put my motor back in and had to bleed the slave cylinder to get the clutch fork in. Now I have used my air bleeder and i have throw and the petal returns but it doesnt throw far enough to disengage the clutch. Am I doing something wrong? Im at a loss any help would be great

Make sure you engaged the clutch fork to the throw out bearing. You have to manually push it forward and you'll hear a noise like it snaps in. If you just pulled the engine you shouldn't have to re bleed the clutch system but since you attempted you'll have to. Pretty much it's like the brake system only you have to manually pull the petal back up. When I do it I use my vacuum bleeder to kinda get it started since sometimes it's a huge pain. Then once I get a little bit of a petal I continue to bleed it normally.

I know clutch fork is engaged. when I went to reinstall the fork the slave was to far forward to let me get it into place so i cracked the bleeder open to releave some pressure. I used the the air bleeder and got pressure in my petal it just isn't moving the clutch fork far enough forward to disengaged the clutch. I also had the slave out so the I could have the bleeder up up high enough for the air to travel to it

What year wrx is it? I know the 02-03 style slave isn't as good as the rest. In 04' they went with a better design. Only thing I can think of is it's still not good enough. Maybe take off the slave and bench bleed it. Other then that I really wouldn't be able to say without actually seeing it or seeing what you're doing.

Yeah, as a matter of fact my friend was having problems getting his brothers 02 wrx's clutch working after we swapped in a working engine and even with me there we couldn't seem to get it to work for us. Luckily for us the guy he bought the engine from sent us an of slave with master already bled. So we just put that on and automatically got the petal back.

ok called the dealer and they had two part numbers one up into early mid 02 and one for late 02 on. Which should I get he said he needed a vin to make sure which is the one which I do not have?

I know they like to look at the vin but all the slaves will work. The 02-03 slave seems not to be as good of a design. I'd go for the 04 style. Everything will bolt up to what's there. If you just wanna go with the one that's on there then just give them your last 8 of your vin. A new one would be better then nothing. If there is someone in your area that might be able to check it out that knows what they are doing I'd go that route first instead of just throwing parts on your car. But it's your choice.

If you were closer I'd come help ya out but that is way to much of a hike for me. Petrol is costly these days. Plus I'm pretty booked up.

what the hell does this do it is mounted to the slave cylinder

Supraru 06-06-2009 02:06 PM

Goes next to the slave it self. They share the same holes. Tried to get some pictures the best I could for you.

The clutch line attaches to that.

Yea I know where it goes wanted to know what it does

Supraru 06-06-2009 02:32 PM

Couldn't tell ya. lol. I know the old slave always seemed like a bad design. It's probably to help to be able to bleed it better. Could be wrong though.

anti dump valve. Keeps "shock" from the driveline (I believe)

I thought that was attached to the bottom of the clutch master cylinder. that circle part. Maybe I wasn't listening well when it was described to me.

Supraru 06-06-2009 03:09 PM

Found it.

Apparently people take them out. It involves both parts.

Reds82 06-06-2009 06:25 PM

hmmm after screwing with it all day so far no luck. I might have a leak at my master but cant tell if it is that or if I spilled some dot3 when bleeding it.

That sucks. I had a leaky master too. It's not that bad of a job.
