popped springs on clutch disc

so my clutch somehow popped the springs outa the disc. any idea on how this happened? im at a dead end with how it happened. my trans did have a bad bearing on the input shaft and a little bit if fkuid was leaking in the bellhousing. so if that helps, i really have no idea.

this is pics from my competion clutch stage 3

wth, when did this happen?

JSpecV03 05-28-2009 04:47 PM

we found it yesterday when the trans was being swapped over.
luckily, warrenty covered it and a replacement is on its way.

****ty clutch, or to muc power.....i had that happen to me with a few exedy clutches.

OMGz Turbo 05-28-2009 05:05 PM

yeah it has to be a bad unit. since there mass produced, theres bound to be a few bad apples out there. but with the power im making, i highly doubt power was to blame.

honestly im not 100% sure. i do know that my old trans that was on the car had a bad input shaft bearing and that was making lots of noise. there was a strange "tink" like noise that i thought was chatter.

It's most likely not a bad unit. Sprung clutches are notorious for doing this unfortunately. It's a well versed topic in the DSM community, and the manufactuerer ACT is very well-known for this happening with their sprung units also.

JSpecV03 05-28-2009 05:57 PM

so seems ACT clutches pop more than others?
FYI, i had competition clutch, not ACT.

enohand 05-28-2009 06:23 PM

FYI ACT & exedy = the same thing iirc

JSpecV03 05-28-2009 06:53 PM

yeah idk. but either way, the company help up to there 90 day no questions ask warrenty. and a new kit is on the way.

Bingo.

Did you get another sprung unit? I hope you went full-face this time, or at least un-sprung...

JSpecV03 05-29-2009 04:10 AM

nah the warrenty replaced that unit. but i look at it this way, i saved 400 bucks. so this time around everything should be good. a healty trans and new clutch so i should be good.

Roto 05-29-2009 10:56 AM

Had that happen twice on an exedy stage 2 in a civic. The springs somehow got broken into fragments and got jammed in the PP and it felt like I lost the clutch all together.

JSpecV03 05-29-2009 01:16 PM

^^^ thats what it felt like in my car, i had to fight with the shifter to get it in gear, and somtimes it didnt even wanna go in gear.

AutobahnRacer 06-09-2009 01:14 PM

samething happend to me, with my Prelude. No symptoms, until all the sudden i coudlnt shift. We took it out, two springs were missing.

4DR_DB7 06-09-2009 01:28 PM

Simple. Disc was either defective in the first place or you were beating on it, ie. dropping clutch too quickly, burnouts and launches, etc...

Its not rocket science.

AutobahnRacer 06-09-2009 01:32 PM

I drove it drove it, I wasn't easy on mine but didn't beat the **** out of it either.

Mine was old.

His sounds defective. I looks like its still in pretty good shape.

SkinnyGT 06-09-2009 01:36 PM

In my NA eclipse one of the springs came off the oem clutch and ended up where the flywheel bolts are. The bolt heads were pretty mangled.

JSpecV03 06-09-2009 07:07 PM

yeah thats where mine ended up, but the heads were fine. sucks im still waiting on replacement parts
