Someone says I hit their car... I didn't

So my buddy was telling me on monday that someone in our class thinks I hit his car, and he's going to come to me with a $300 bill to fix damages. However, I didn't hit his car, I have no idea why he would think that. My firebird doesn't have a scratch on it. My truck has some dings and scratches, but I hardly ever drive that to school. Idk, I don't even know the kid at all, but he didn't say a word to me all week, so I'm assuming he figured out it wasn't me. I'm just a bit confused over this, I mean I usually park on the complete other side of the parking lot from his car. I'm guessing someone in a truck like mine (lots of chevy/GMC's around here) hit his car somewhere and he just thought it was mine. But what I really want to know is, if he does come to me with a bill, what can I do? I'll obviously explain to him that I didn't hit him, he got the wrong car, etc, but what's the worst that can happen? I was told the kid said it happened two weeks ago, and he didn't file a report. Idk about an insurance claim, but can you even file one without a police report? I'm just hoping I don't have to pay out for something I didn't do, plus I need to keep my driving record clean. Any advice?

If he has no proof, you are fine. he didn't even file a police report but he wants to come after you because he *thinks* you hit his car? Tell him to go screw himself if he tries to come at you with a $300 bill.

My advice is, unless he has some form of 'proof' that you caused damage to his car, you have nothing to worry about.

All I would have to say is that he needs proof that you hit him. I don't think you'll have to pay anything really. It's not your fault, and if it happened a couple weeks ago, he should have filed something earlier. He doesn't have enough credibility to prove that you hit his car unless someone saw you hit the car, but you didn't so you're good.

I say take the bill and then hit his car in front of him.

Dude, you know you hit my car. I cant believe your acting like you didnt. I SAW you do it. YOu will be getting the bill and you WILL pay it. I have my lawyer deliver it to you if you want to go that route.

Kidding..., But yeah there isnt much he can do. You should of approached him when you saw him to ask him about it. If he does approach you simply say it wasn't you and that if it was you would gladly pay... But it wasn't. Don't let the conversation get heated. If needed tell him you'll go to the Police station and you guys can discuss it there.

Or, sounds like your buddy got you good hehe!

meh, just stay calm and tell the truth (that you didnt hit his car) and leave it at that.. Hopefully it doesnt turn into him vandalizing your ****.

Proven and Dpancoast hit the nail on the head. There's no point in getting defensive over something you don't need to be defensive about. I'm sure the kid realized he doesn't have a case and unless he plans on strong arming you into giving him $300 then you'll never hear about it again.

I'm so going to give random people bills until someone actually pays me. It's a GENIUS plan!

DaneMX5 05-11-2009 11:53 AM

tell him to present proof, which he wont be able to, in that case he cant do anything

He cant do ****....

True story...

About a month ago I was at walmart in my brothers car.. Some one had hit his car about a week prior so his door made a clunk when he opens it. He opened the door and all of a sudden this woman started SCREAMING the he hit her rental car her babys screaming murder too. she started to flip out to her husband that they cant return it that way. My brother lost it and said he didn't hit it at all and started cursing. The woman swore up and down that she felt her car shake from the impact and she pointed to a tiny scratch. After letting them fight the pissing contest I got involved. I told the woman to stfu and close her door. I opened my brothers and the scratch mark didn't line up with where the door would have hit. I also said that if she felt her car shake from the impact then it would have left a mark. there was nothing....

She quickly shut the **** up... then we ended up going to target to get away from walmart clientele.

I love telling people to shut the **** up!
