Do you miss anything about old school cars?

I figured I would start a thread for giggles. I was thinking while driving down the road, some there was some pretty basic but very functional things on old school cars that are long forgotten.

So looking back on old school what do you miss?

I miss these old windows The one you tilted out for a wind tunnel of air. Unless you were stopped AC was not needed or not equipped. Probably the best thing on an older car except that they always made air noise when closed. I wish they could bring them back somehow in a way they wont make the god awful whistle noise.

Hmmm, that's a really good question.

I liked all the random creature comfort things that you received on the old 50's sedans.

AND! The back seats in 40s and 50s cars. They were practically couches!
(crappy picture, but you get the idea.)

And, while i know they are around, suicide doors, cause they're baller as ****!

And! Rumble seats from the old model a's

I think mine would be opposite. Its not what the old cars had that I loved, its what they didn't have. I miss cars that don't have power steering, I miss cars that didn't have airbags and traction control. I miss cars being driver cars, now they're all heavy and bloaded, full of crap that's not needed,

Well i'm not talking about 5000lb sedans from the 50s. I'm not very old so for me old school is the late 70s and 80s. I'm just comparing MK1 GTI vs MK5 GTi. Late 80s civics vs current civics, etc.

Yes I have, I've owned an Acura CL 3.0

i loved the simplicity behind them. Now, you can alter one thing without throwing a damn check engine light or failing emissions. Everything is just computers now-a-days. no fun.

When the only real chrome on cars wasn't on the wheels and enough room in the engine bay you didn't always bang your knuckles for the simplest jobs.

The Captain 04-02-2009 11:11 AM

I miss the hood ornaments too.

OutToWinPAHC 04-02-2009 11:30 AM

Old school isn't just American.... Remember these side view mirrors

phate1229 04-02-2009 01:19 PM

I miss those mirrors, had them on my 240z, never should have sold that, I miss the sound of 3 webbers firing up, miss not being able to go into 4th and the little notch just before third, I miss the perfect sound it made when the door was shut and wedging the hood open with a broom handle. I miss cars with character

Xavier 04-02-2009 01:21 PM

Simplicity.

Oh, and the smell. The smell of an older car driving down the road gives me a sense of nostalgia.

I gotta say I miss the good old traditional manual transmission with a clutch pedal. None of this stupid paddle shifting bull****. Seems like very few car nowadays have a shifter and clutch pedal.
