RIP: Richard Burns
article
Former WRC champion. Sad to lose one of the greats, I had really hoped he would get better and would drive again. He was originally slated to drive for Subaru in the 03 season, but his last miles were at the Rally Great Britten in 2002. Heres to hoping there is a Super Special at the end of all these stages. -Cliff |

it's one odd way to end this season. I was wondering recently how things were going for him. There was no mention of him at all in recent mags and such.
|
Something a little coincidental but the day that he passed was almost of the exact day that he won the British Rally Championship a few years back. It was a pleasure watch him duke it out with Gronholm, Makinanen, Martin, Sainz and the rest of the group every Sunday night when I should've been in bed for school the next day. I'm sure going to miss it.

Damn this sucks.
I was really hoping he would get back behind the wheel of a Suby too. RIP Richard. |

Its been a tough few years for the WRC. Losing Burns, Michael Park (Markko Martin's Co-Driver), and support from one of the major manufactureres can't help the already dwindling financial support for rallies. Personally, I think they lost a lot of the luster when they reorgonised the schedule a few years ago, and dropped the safari rallye. There are just too many races that are too alike. I personally prefered when the title would conclude in Whales at the Rallye Great Britten...but thats just me. Loeb is just not exciting enough to watch, as he is simply smooth and consistant, which has proven great for winning, but not that great for watching.

an interesting couple points. Loeb's excellence won't really be as much a factor now that's he's driving a private Xsara. Which is also good because it frees up manufacturer drives from other teams, which are few and far between, especially now that peugot and citroen are out. It would be nice to see other manufacturers step up. I hope that Skoda will stay in. I wonder where Martin is going to end up, as well.
However, i hope the FIA doesn't jack it all up like they've done with F1 recently. Have you heard of some of the crazy changes they're considering to the next two years schedules? Anyone looking for WRC on their PSP? |

It was like when Jeff Gordon won all the races in NASCAR. It got (more)boring to watch. |
