Ryan's 92 SVX back from the dead?!
Yes we have yet another shop car. This time its a 1992 Subaru SVX with 131k (did ya think we would get a Honda?) that we aquired from our Subaru used parts supplier. This car has been sitting in a field for over 3 years and had a little treat inside the back seat when we got it. A family of mice had made their way inside and make home in the seat lol. We cleaned the back seat out and left it sit until there was no sign of them. I always wanted an SVX ever since I was a kid. They are so stupid looking that I had to have it.
When we received the car it was without keys and hasn't ran in those 3 years... Ouchkabibbles.... We "hotwired" her a few times and it cranked over very very very VERY slow... not a good sign. We brought it in the shop and proceded to drain the oil.
What came out was disgusting. A thick black sludge slooooooooowly drained out. After 30mins of draining I filled her up with fresh 5W30 and went for broke. After 3 cranks (which spun so nicely) she fired right up :D Holy bajesus the EG33 engines are bulletproof. This thing sat without an intake on it... no top rad hose.... no o2 sensors... ****ty stale gas that smells like varnish and it still ran.
After I let her run a bit to get the motor hot to melt the goo that was once motor oil and blow the other "nests" from the exhaust I set out for a key. Called Becker... no dice. Even tho the car originally came from them they don't have the VIN on record for a key... Stupid asses.. Called my buddies at Faulkner... again no dice the car never even went there. Gave a local locksmith a ringy and she said NO PROBLEM... just bring me a lock core :D
So I yanked the core from the door and sent out to The Lock Doctor. After 10 mins she had 2 perfectly cut keys for me! Skeptical, I headed to the shop and gave it a go................ VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOM holy **** the keys work!! And wow does she pur like the day she was built...
Time to find out why this pig was sitting in a field for so long. I jammed on the brakes to shove it in drive.... no dice. Brakes to the floor...wtf. Oh thats right, mice chewed the ****ing brake line too! BAH I have an ebrake :D Drive she goes... clunk clunk BAM!. Just as I thought, the center diff is gone. SVX's are notorious tranny eaters. At the time Subaru didn't have a 5spd strong enough for the torque of the flat 6 so it was never offered in a 5spd. Oh well, I was planning on a 5spd swap anyway... I do have all the parts laying around ;) now where is that title?
to be continued........
