andru1313 11-16-2005 01:24 PM

Good F'n Luck. I had this done as well. They broke my F'n Jaw!!!!!! I have never felt pain like that in my life. Make sure htey give you LOTS AND LOTS OF Drugs.

Some advice, after the surgery keep your mouth cleen and don't rush things. Dry socket could be the worst pain I have ever felt. Seroiulsy this is a pretty serious surgery.

Anyway good luck.

I use to work with an Oral Surgeon. It was just me and him and the patient for over 2000 surgeries with half of them being wisdom teeth extraction. I especially enjoyed the times when we put the patient to sleep with either nitrous and/or IV sedation, lol.

If you smoke, the most important thing I can tell you is to give it up. Like mentioned, dry socket is one of the most painful things you will ever experience in your life. And smoking will give you dry socket.

I don't smoke. I keep my mouth very clean.

I will be going soon to get all 4 wisdom teeth removed before they become impacted. I will also be getting 4 other teeth removed to help overcrowding. This will all be done at the same time, I will be put under. Then I get braces.

I've heard that all surgery is pretty serious, lol.

Although, some people definitely have it tougher than others. I'm keeping my wisdom teeth till they fall out of my mouth or come out on their own, lol.

damn dude i gotta get the samething done. mine arent that bad impacted though. i go friday for consultation with surgeon. good luck mang!

WhiteXFire 11-16-2005 05:53 PM

Yes, it's definitely different for everyone. I sat and watched a movie while mine were taken out, haha. I can still remember the smell of the drill that was used to cut through the jaw bone to take the impacted ones out. I refused to be knocked out...I just wanted novicane, but he convinced me to have a little nitrous at some point. It just made me sleepy, along with the fact that it was so damn early in the morning. Anyway, my mouth was definitely sore, but it wasn't that bad at all. You just have to watch what you eat for a little while afterwards and make sure you don't end up with dry socket.

Heh, true...but I think my back surgery (lumbar laminectomy) 2 1/2 yrs ago was more serious than when I had my wisdom teeth removed. Man, if only they had videotaped it like I asked! :(

DoubleOughtCel 11-16-2005 06:01 PM

Alex, you might remember me coming to Ashley's house during the MTV VMA's last year with a swollen mouth and uncontrollable drooling. That was a week after I had all 4 of mine out. I hope you took at least a week off from work.

Little G 11-16-2005 07:24 PM

good luck...i never had wisdom teeth pulled.

WRX27 11-16-2005 08:06 PM

Good Luck! I had all 4 of my impacted ones taken out. It wasnt bad @ all for me. Some laughing gas and i was out. I was @ work 6 hours later and didnt miss a day. Gotta love the perks!

IBLIS 11-16-2005 08:42 PM

My fiance just had all 4 taken out & she was hurting for a while. Try not to get any dry sockets, she had 2 & they bothered her for weeks. Atleast you'll get some decent pain killers.

I've never had to have them taken out. I'm 28 & they fit in there just fine. *knocks on wood*

Good luck man! Your breath is gonna stink like ass for days! :rotfl:

Had all four out about six years ago. The drugs were so good/pain so little I wish I had four more. Seriously. I woke up in recovery laughing my head off. Laughed the entire way home (about a 20 min drive) between blackouts. Went home and slept for a few hours, popped a vic, and lit up. No dry socket, no swelling, no pain.

Oh, good luck.

anthracite93 11-17-2005 02:12 PM

someone explain this dry sockets thing to me?... I have a less than medically gifted mind...numbers are my gig.

Jim

When they remove the tooth there is a hole(socket) left open in the gum. I believe it has to do with the blood clotting in that socket. Something happens leaving the nerve exposed so it becomes very painful. Like a knife jabbing into your gum constantly. Trust me you will know if you have it. There is no way to prevent it just keep your mouth clean and don't do things that can bring it on. I had it in 2 of the exstraction sites.
