building my first comp, need help
so i decided to build my first computer, i dont know much about them, all ive ever done was change memory. i need some help picking some parts, its sort of a budget build, trying to keep it under like 700 without a OS. i can get vista or xp for free from school. i would like to give 64 bit vista a try.
so far i have: intel core 2 duo e7300 2.66 ghz lga775 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115132 asus mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131347 4gb ram corsair http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184 and a 500gb WD hd http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136178 dvd drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151173 i still need video card that is pretty good(DVI/HDMI/VGA), dvd-rw drive, case, and i dont know wat else. ive heard to use a different heatsink and fan than the ones included from the cpu. i was planning to get a case wit a power supply. i would also like a wireless card in it can someone help me out here? |

thanks, i remembered that thread but was hopin to get some feedback more directed towards my build.

got ya... i dunno... i still haven't built my computer :(
i keep spending money elsewhere  |
yea i planned to build one last may/june. then went wit a new car instead  now since im going back away to school in jan i definitely want a nice desktop instead of sittin on my laptop all day. most of the parts in that thread are no long for sale on newegg.

really? that sucks... lol... amazing how fast things are out of date and replaced...

if you want to take advantage of all 4 gigs of that ram then you will need to run a 64bit version of windows.

id personally do a e8500 or q6600 chip. i haven't read vid card reviews in a while but i know you can the 8800gt nvidia card cheap now and its a really good card still, not the best but still very good bang for the buck

So far, some good parts listed out, though I am more partial to AMD Processors.
For a DVD-RW, Lite-On or Plextor are solid choices. Any more though, they are all pretty cheap to get, so I wouldnt worry too much about this one. Video Cards - I'm rocking an ATI Readon 1650 Pro, and haven't had too many issues with it, aside from the drivers for Vista 64bit. Also, if you want the best sound, look into a different sound card. On-board sound just is not as good as one being supplied from an expansion card. |

thanks, i figured for now ill leave the on board sound and change it up if i really want to. im thinkin this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125229 |
If your not gaming, or doing anything insane for photo/video editing, that should be fine. I don't game too heavy on my machine either, and I have a similar card.
Though, once Diablo III comes out, I'll need a good video card. |

Dont bother buying another heatsink/fan. The intel ones you get with your processor are actually pretty good.
As for the video card, get anything from Nvidia. The model you buy will all depend on how much money you want to spend on it. |
