The Deep Thoughts Thread

This could be fun. I randomly have these deep thoughts, and I kinda enjoy it. I like thinking
about things that are hard to think about, visualize, or imagine. Things like, what was there
before the big bang? What is mirror matter? Does Sasquatch really exist?

What kinda deep thoughts do you think about? Here's the place to post them up and have a discussion about them!

I'll start....

I've been thinking about this lately. If you can break time down into smaller and smaller incriments...
such as .1 seconds, .01 seconds, .001 seconds, etc....when does time actually start? In theory,
following this model, wouldn't you be able to break time down into smaller incriments infinitely and
therefore prove that time never really starts?

CHAOS 11-18-2008 12:10 PM

what if we really are some of the smallest beings in the entire universe and beyond? perhaps we are just some childs plaything and we have no idea.

what if people see colors differently? like if we swapped brains and what we both knew as yellow.. you saw as my blue and i saw as your red... or something like that.

CarbonIS 11-18-2008 12:11 PM

isn't that the problem that colorblind people have?

CHAOS 11-18-2008 12:16 PM

no... they cant distinguish between colors... this is more like a complete departure from what you normally see... like we are so used to the colors... and what if you saw thru someone else's eyes and what you both know as yellow typically... they actually saw as your blue. does that make sense?

It makes sense, I just think its hard to explain. But I do get what your trying to say.

I don't know if this counts. lol

One time I asked Keith if another car going the same speed as us on the highway, but ahead of us, was really "ahead" of us in time. I couldn't wrap my head around why we weren't at the same place, if we're going the same speed. :screwy:

Jon I always thought that about colors, Like we all know them by name but dont actually see them the same way.

I cant think about the big bang crap though, I actually start to have anxiety when I do.

I wonder that too. When I see the color green, I know its green, but I want to call it orange and usually do. Its weird.

Buster 11-18-2008 12:33 PM

how about this, how does this thread have 8 posts and 0 veiws?

I used to think about this all the time as I was growing up. I would point at my brothers red shirt and ask, "What color is that?" Of course, he said red and I would do it with other things.
If you think about it, there is absolutely no way to describe a color. You can't say, "That banana is yellow like the sun" because what if someone else saw yellow a different way? It's hard to explain, but I'm right there with you.

CHAOS 11-18-2008 12:36 PM

i wonder what it would take to be able to self heal.

could someone truely live forever?

how long would it take for people to evolve if the world was flooded?

will al gore ever realize that global warming isnt completely caused by humans? and that it is an ongoing trend of heating and cooling?

since the continents drifted apart, will they have collide on the other side? what kind of effect would that have on the cultures of that time since it will be in the distant future?

what would it be like to commit suicide?

Buster 11-18-2008 12:38 PM

technically jon, the continents are going back together. they are moving at the plates.

CarbonIS 11-18-2008 12:39 PM

if according to physics, all of the matter in the universe only adds up to 50% of the total mass of the universe, then where is the other 50%?
mirror matter is some f'ed up stuff

CHAOS 11-18-2008 12:42 PM

is mirror matter the same as black/dark matter?

right im saying when they do eventually collide... when will that be? what will happen? will the earth even exist that much longer?

Snoozie 11-18-2008 12:43 PM

Dark matter is some crazy **** too. That kind of stuff, I cannot get my feeble mind to comprehend.

Buster 11-18-2008 12:44 PM

new mountains i guess lol

SovXietday 11-18-2008 12:46 PM

That color thing weirds me out. I can't imagine red being blue. ACK!
