TST'ers Help me find my next car!!!

Ok, so here is the deal. I have $8k cash to spend on a private sale, or up to $22k ($14k with the 8k down) on a new car. Here is my requirements.

- Prefer AWD or RWD but will buy a FWD if it is a sweet deal.
- Nothing Slow.
- Must be Manual 5 or 6 speed i dont care.
- Must be clean, no paint fades, or loud noises when you hit bumps.
- I Prefer a 4 door (im sick of moving my seat for people to get in and out.
- Im not looking for any american cars (except a Cobalt SS or SRT-4)
- Something that is going to last me a long time.
- I do not want another DSM (i love them, but i have bad luck with them)

Basically i need some help on deciding what car i want now. I have a few in mind. Feel free to voice any opinions.

- S14 (97-98) 240sx
- New Cobalt SS
- New SRT-4
- Newer style (i think its 96-99) Civic Hatch with either a b18c5 or k20a swap
- Bug-eye WRX
- 3gen Prelude SH
- 2gen MR2 Turbo
- FD RX7

Mind you, i would rather buy a car for 8k, then buy a new car , or finance one. But im willing to do it, if the price is right and i really like the car. Links would be appriciated, but opinions are fine too.

mr2 turbo gets my vote just cause i think they are neat cars. Or the WRX.

Go 4 door escort lx-e with a gtr swap. :) cost ya about $4k for a fully worked 12 second escort! lol.

also...have you considered the nissan 350z? thats a a nice priced rwd car

KrautFed20V 11-01-2005 03:50 PM

why not make this a poll? but what will your eventual goals for the car be? that should dictate what kind of car you should buy.

SexyDSM95 11-01-2005 03:57 PM

You are going to degrade yourself from AWD to RWD? With the weather in PA.....not a smart idea.

Francesco 11-01-2005 04:00 PM

i would void the 240sx and civic hatch suggestion since you would swap motors out...a k20 swap is very expensive, and those two cars are becoming less original for mods.

rx7 is a nice choice, but its a 2 seater. if you want two seats go for it, but their not that reliable.

wrx is a really good choice, exspecially since people on this site know loads of info about them and repairs.

srt4 and cobalt i won't talk about. i don't like them...

personally if i lost my car i would look into a mini cooper S. i like them alot.

just think about what you want bro.

n/a vs. turbo
2 seats vs. 4 seats

i won't be suprised if the majority of the people on this forum suggest a WRseX

If he is going to spend that much he might as well find a used Poopra...

If you want style/reliability Honda is your way to go. This really cute guy I know use to have a very clean Integra LS (spoiler-less). It was pretty hooked up and ran decent numbers for a N/A. Very roomy for the size and comfortable interior IMO.

poopra insurance is going to be out the a$$...unless you get a n/a one and just build a turbo motor and rear.

350z - too pricey

my goals, are a nice quick street car. Im also considering to start drifting again. I placed 3rd at DGTrials in a stock (coilovers/exhaust) in my 240sx. Imagine what i could do in a rb 240. Or perhaps a ae86?

I dunno, i just want a clean riding car, that is quick. so all you members who are bored, search autotrader for me, but make sure its within 100 miles. There is a $50 finder fee, if i buy the car you show me.

Oh yea and a NSX is going to be soooo much better insurance wise.

NSX shouldn't be an option for him...he needs something reliable...if a NSX breaks the repair bill is insane, and so is downtime since they don't stock NSX parts at ACURA normally

KrautFed20V 11-01-2005 04:12 PM

Integra insurance was out the azzor, my brand new gti was 500 less for the year than my integra.... and that R is amazing!

Ummm that's only because there is a huge difference between the family station wagon and a "sports coupe".

You also have to consider that Hondas are very very high risk in the car theft department.
