so i was looking up how to build a 400whp srt-4...

and came across this thread on LS1.com...

http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82314

lol...

Quote:

Neon = trendy eco car
no... the neon was never trendy

Quote:

the guy in STR4 probably got 40k in it and still can't run 10's LOL!
lol... 40k into an SRT4?

Quote:

yea, unless he's got a fully built block and drive train, lets see how long his motor and drive train can handle that 400 hp
lol... seriously, this was posted earlier this year... we've known for a while that the entire drivetrain can pretty much handle this reliably

sad the post is closed... but it still amazes me that even 3 years after the neon srt-4 stopped production, there are still "car guys" out there that don't know even an ounce of information about another "sports" car.

This is why I'm on a mixed make forum... to learn... srtforums.com would have taught me nothing about any other make/model. I ditched that site after about a year... found this place and stayed.

But cereal... how can you call yourself a "Car guy/gal" and not at least show interest in other vehicles... even if they're not your cup of tea, why wouldn't you want to know something about them so you can have an intelligent conversation instead of looking like an ignorant moron?

I still hate SRT-4's, but I gotta respect them for what they can do..

Had a chance to drive my buddies SRT after he got tuned with a Super 16G and I gotta say that I was impressed. Torque steer like a mo-fo though...

Man how do you think us honda guys feel?

granted.... but there are waaaaay more ****ty riced out hondas than there are ****ty riced out SRT-4s

That is a numbers game... the vast majority of hondas that are in the hands of "tuners" (i use the term very loosely) are the stereotype. There are a "handful" of nicely done hondas.

Whereas the SRT-4 is merely a casualty of ignorance, as demonstrated by the thread on LS1.com.

Granted, there are a decent amount of snobbish punks in SRT-4's... but they've generally came from the ricer community and just happen to have a few extra bucks laying around and purchased an srt.

But really, the point is... don't be ignorant. if all you're going to do is bash away at driver's of a specific vehicle, or those vehicles... at least do so intelligently and know what you're talking about. Otherwise its just ridiculously childish.

Having owned both cars I can say this:
LS1.com is not for the informed, it's a nice board, but it's not known as a paragon of information.
People don't know about the capabilities of the SRT-4 because only one or 2 guys has truely pushed the limit in them. To my knowledge only 1 car has hit 9's and a handful of others 10's.

Anyone that has owned an SRT-4 knows that the community of owners is hit and miss. I never went to SRTForums.com for information or help, I always went to SRT-4mation.

And don't let LS1 guys bother you, they think just because Jesus Christ designed their motors they are know-it-alls.

Scapegoat 10-14-2008 12:35 PM

oh, i don't let them bother me at all. Its just your usual uninformed individuals that call themselves "car guys".

I didn't know an srt-4 hit 9's, is it a street legal car? I know there are a decent amount in the high 10's and many all over the 11s

I'd like to say that I really don't see as many riced out honda's as I used to. Granted I haven't been to allentown in quite some time LOL.

But seriously, when going to a honda meet anymore there are very few riced out turd buckets. But I swear 1 of 3 neons I see are on the ricey side.

However, I wouldn't mind owning a srt4 myself.

I wouldnt say there are few, i would say its still about half and half, when it comes to the FnF hondas and nicely built ones. but you do have a point more people are starting to go for the clean look

it's a race car, automatic, shop car. Call it the red sled
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=VXkiItKEgSs

There are fewer 10 sec neons then you would think, prbably less then 20. And even half of them can't keep the car together. SRT's are best from a roll.

marshallpre1 10-14-2008 01:40 PM

Don't let the LS1 guys bother you. I was a member of that site, but they bash everything non-v8. They always bash down the Supra, even though it has proven to be a great platform for any type of racing (Ok, not really rally LOL, but there are rally supras).

The same thing is true of mustang forums...

Eclipse GSX 61 10-14-2008 03:48 PM

I originally did not like them because they are glorified Neon's but now I love them. They are so obnoxious like a dump truck and I want one just for ****s and giggles. When they cost the price of a DSM like $5k-$10k I'll buy one just for fun.

OMGz Turbo 10-14-2008 05:44 PM

there is more than 1 9sec srt...

crexxy90 10-14-2008 06:15 PM

I like srt 4s but id never own myself, to me if your gonna buy a ford/chevy/dodge it better have v8 power! But i cant say i like too many srt 4 owners, alot of them think the neon is the greatest **** since sliced bread just like many civic/camaro/mustang owners do.

SovXietday 10-14-2008 08:26 PM

I thought the Honda guys were bad until I bought my LS1. Good lord, the vast majority of people who drive Camaro's are about as smart as my right thumb. The mere fact that I daily drove the LS1 and my fun car was a Civic was blasphemy, lol.

DownforceTom 10-14-2008 09:06 PM

Scapegoat(real name still a mystery on here?), has there been one time yet when we've hung out and I haven't made a neon joke and you haven't made a civic joke back?

p.s. you wanna come over saturday night to watch ufc w/ me and the wife?

Nah, my name's been said on here. So you can use it.

We'll see about saturday. I'm gonna try and meet up with the chick i was supposed to last weekend... but was too sick to :-/

I'll try that for friday though. What time saturday?

As far as the joking... thats what it is though, joking. Some people are just ignorant and know nothing and say completely off the wall stuff that they believe is true.

Willdue 10-14-2008 09:52 PM

Honestly, for the riced out hondas, it really is starting to die down. It depends where you live really. It has died off majorly in the last year.

And you gotta respect SRT's for what they can do from factory, even if they are a Neon. It just takes ALOT to push them into the 9's more then other cars.

same can be said for any FWD vehicle though. Physics just isn't on the drivetrain's side.

This thread really wasn't intended to be a "oh woe is me and my SRT!"

more of a rant on "car guys" that are just plain ignorant of performance cars other than their own. I don't think you can be considered a "car guy" unless you've got an actual interest in cars... of all types...

sure, you can favor a single one over others, but to just completely be devoid of knowledge and make ignorant comments that are so far left of the facts... i'm not sure what that makes you... but you're not a "car guy"
