Your favorite high protein snacks?

I have started working out and I know that my diet is lacking in protein. What are some high protein and low fat snacks that you guys eat? I spend a lot of my day on campus where I can't get a great meal, so I just want something I can either prepare on the weekend and take with me every day of the week, or something I can buy which isn't crazy expensive like these designer whey protein bars?

futuredsmowner 10-10-2008 07:56 PM

check out dpsnutrition.com for protein bars.

this place is about half the price of gnc.

Do Slim Jims have a lot of protein?

Not sure, but they contain separated chicken and more sodium than I care to eat.

CarbonIS 10-10-2008 08:15 PM

Edamame. Steamed or boiled with sea salt. Sooooooooooo good. I actually just ate a whole bunch of it.

Vypurr 10-10-2008 08:18 PM

That's basically soybeans in the pod right? I see a lot of that around the net. Seems easy enough to make and bag for each day.

ASIAN JUL 10-10-2008 08:25 PM

Low fat cottage cheese, egg whites, hummus..

lawdogg 10-10-2008 08:33 PM

Oatmeal, yogurt, peanut butter, eggs (yes yolks too), chicken, tuna, protein bars, etc etc. Started taking whey recently, it's a good supplement.

den9 10-10-2008 09:48 PM

tuna, and chicken is your best bet because they are pretty much fatless but it gets boring

cliff bars are cheap and palletable, about 10 grams protein, but too much and they make your poop sticky and nasty
beef jerky is good but salty and expensive
straight peanut butter, or eat it with an apple
fast food u get lots of cheap protein, but it might not pay off for you
hard boiled eggs are ok too, super convenient, and easier to take out the yolk, used to be nice when they were a dollar a dozen

TROLL 10-10-2008 09:57 PM

tuna and chicken... thats what i did when i was serious about it. not exactly snackfood though.
protein powder to make into shakes... from dps... its cheap and its good.

i think charly was saying that instead of 3 big servings of protein a day its better to have 5 or 6 smaller servings, but i dont think snackbars or anything are necessary because they are usually a lot more expensive.

Protein powder for shakes right after working out.

A good bar with protein is Snicker's marathon bar, but it has a good amount of fat as well (although it's leaps and bound better than power bars).

Other then that the usual chicken, eggs, stuff. WaWa has some decent choices if you need something quick.

Consider getting some Tupperware containers and bringing your own food to school and work.

kunt_masha 10-10-2008 11:43 PM

3 of these bishes a day and youll be JACKED!

1.5 cups whole grain oats
3 tbl spoons natty peanut butter
1 cup whole milk
2 scoops protien powder (whatever you like, i use cytogainer)
and add water til its nice and milk shake like.. blend it up and BAM--> 980 calories, 70-80 grams protien, moderate carbs

make a **** load of it and carry it in a thermos when your done workin out... its everything youll need

CleanNeon98 10-10-2008 11:50 PM

I love beef jerky.

wrx_snobordr 10-11-2008 12:04 AM

Almonds, yogart w/granola , cottage cheese w/ fresh fruit, walnuts, peanuts.

Buy lunch meat and roll up some turkey, low sodium ham, roast beef or chicken and snack on them.

Buy chicken strips in the 5 pound bags. Cook a bunch, find your favorite wing sauce, apply and carry with you.

Broccoli, celery with peanut butter and apples with peanut butter.

For the average person only wanting to stay in shape or put on a little size all you need is half your body weight in grams of protein. 100lbs=50grams. It is more about taking in good calories, minimizing calories that are turned into fat, like milk for instance which has lactose which is a sugar, sugar = fat.

Water, water, water oh and water.

den9 10-11-2008 12:13 AM

if u want to gain weight just eat pop tarts, 400 calories per pack, u can easily throw in an extra 1200 calories a day, it will be all fat though

these are the best, about 10 grams of protein, small, and a dollar, taste good, especially the yogurt cream dipped ones
http://www.clifbar.com/food/products_mojo/1240

these are also very high in protein, about 1.50, they are alittle harder to eat though, not very tasty but out of all the super high protein bars they are the most palletable
http://www.clifbar.com/food/products_builders/1230

if you go to wegmans u can pick these up, they have boxes of every flavor, and they are natural

D Money 10-13-2008 04:35 PM

Why do you need protein snacks?

Get 100% whey protein, any brand, mix it with skim milk and in 8oz of that you got 30grams of protein, only 1.5g of fat tops. Mix two scoops and you got 50grams. Only take in one gram per lb you weigh, the rest you will **** out.

That or protein bars are good too.

For meals turkey, tuna, chicken, etc all have good amounts of protein. Grilled chicken is best IMO, less than 1.5g of fat if you get skinless, 30grams of protein per piece, and you can eat as many as you want haha.
