After a long night I just got home. My car broke on the last run , pic is after this story. I just recently installed a new turbo since my old one is going to be sent out for repair, leaking oil out of oil seal/cir clip. So since the new turbo went on, I was curious to see what it will do. i knew from the gate that this thing will spool slower then anything I have ever owned. Its a Holset with a 14cm T3 Turbine housing (comparable to a .80-.90 a/r). Took the car down the 1/4 and it finally hit full boost at 6500rpms. The turbo flow rate at 33 psi was showing 55lbs/min which it decent. I just didn't have the revs to take advantage of it. The car went a best of 11.9@122mph on 93 pump and blowing the tires of as usual.

So to cut it short, it was the last run of the night and the car FINALLY hooked! I over revved first not knowing that it was going to come out as good as it did. Limiter is set to 8500 rpms on stock motor and valve train. Needless to say the car really didn't go anywhere past 1st gear. My guess is that I floated a valve which decide to take everything else out along its way.

Here is a pic of the damage without taking anything apart. Looks like the valve is stuck on the topside of the piston through the plug well.

Sucks to hear Matt, but you know it's a reason to build it better. How did everything go for the pick up/ride home? I fell asleep after i talked to you last. Hope it all worked out for ya.

RayArroyo 09-05-2008 09:02 AM

To further the story even more. I called AAA for a tow, took them 2.5 hours to make it out to me. When they got there they told me that they couldnt tow my car b/c I have a racing seat and upgraded calipers (stock). They wanted to charge me 250.00 to tow me 15 or so miles. I ended calling TalonTSI97 and he got his friend to come and get me. It sucks that this is the first time Ive used my AAA since applying for it and this is what happened. Thanks to Bizee for staying all night with me. olMyTSI hung out as long as he could knowing he had work EARLY in the AM. Obviously thanks to Camaro MIKE!!!!!!

I hear ya, no biggie. I was actually just happpy to get home before the sun came up.

Evo8kid 09-05-2008 02:27 PM

what does the seat or calipers have to do with anything? like people dont tow shells of cars all the time

AAA is for normal cars that break down not cars that are being modded and raced. They aren't expecting someone with a modded car to call them for towing. Although that really sucks dude thats how they make thier money. Imagine if everyone with a modded car like most of us called them when something went wrong.

I've never had any problems. I've had some pretty serious modded cars, and I have broken down at the track. Never once been refused from being towed, that's bs and I would def be making a phone call on that one.

thats total BS about AAA. as long as its a street legal car with valid reg & ins. you shouldn't have a problem. some of the drivers are d1cks I guess and just looking to make an extra buck or two on the side.

Stefan and I used them all the time to tow our cars all over the place. we both have the AAA gold membership which gets you a free ride home upto 100 miles away as many as 5 times a year. just so happens that I'm less then 100 miles from Atco, Etown, Cecil, Island & Maple Gove so as long as I go to one of those tracks its all good. I'm pretty sure I've been towed home from all of them, they don't make a cent on me :D

See like I said earlier we drive loads of poop that have a tendency to fall apart at the most convenient of times. Gotta love em.

1988 Olds 09-05-2008 03:14 PM

Hmmm damn didn't know they would tow anything. I had been thinking about getting AAA for when I want to take my Cutlass to the track or on a long drive. In that case thats really upsetting they didn't tow you and I would defiantly be making a call to them today to complain.

turbo4g63 09-05-2008 06:14 PM

Thats why i didnt even bother getting AAA. 9/10 times they take forever to get to you, and when they finally do, they can't do anything for you. Lucky for my i have friends w/ big trucks and car trailers.

Sucks to hear about your motor...hopefully the damage is minimal so you can get it back on the road asap
