Its usually b/c the kid/victim feels helpless and knows that most animals are pretty defenseless. Gives them the feeling of control and power in a life they feel, (due to parental abuse most likely), they feel they have none.

I really can't place all the blame on the parents without knowing the full details behind the story.

But yea, this kinda hits on a lot of stuff that I learned in a Deviant Behavior class.

I saw a story on the news last night about a kid that beat a lady's kitten to death with a rock then threw the dead cat onto her porch. I was in tears. I really just don't get it.
