Motorcyclist Killed In Drag Racing Crash
Reporting Walt Hunter PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Family and friends are mourning the loss of a man who died during an apparent drag race in the parking lot of the South Philadelphia stadium complex. Elton Ceca died as scores of horrified spectators watched. CBS 3's Walt Hunter reports he is the third person to die on the lot near 7th and Pattison Streets in the past two years. Ceca, 21, was only months away from his wedding when he was killed Monday night after crashing his motorcycle in what police say was a drag race in a South Philadelphia parking lot. Friends of Ceca remembered him during a gathering outside a South Philadelphia home just a few blocks from the accident scene. "He was the sweetest, the nicest, the most honest guy you could ever meet," said one friend. Police said Ceca was racing the driver of a Cobra when his motorcycle and the car spun out of control and struck a metal barrier at the end of the race course. Captain Mike Murphy of the Philadelphia Police Department said Ceca hit his brakes, causing him to lose control and be thrown over the handlebars of his motorcycle. Ceca is the third person to die in a motorcycle crash on the lot. In September 2006, two motorcycle drivers were killed during a collision. The lot, which is in the shadow of Philadelphia's sports stadiums, is a popular spot for drag racing. Police warn that racing is not a game, it is deadly dangerous. Authorities said they are cracking down on the activity. "I'ts not just a ticket. Philadelphia Police or State Police will take your vehicles," Murphy said.. The District Attorney's office has joined the investigation to determine if any criminal charges will be filed in connection with the deadly |

I was just about to comment on this.
The news kept talking about how drag racing is popular in the area blah blah blah, but the whole time there was a red S13 drifting around the parking lot. It just looked so dumb. Unfortunate accident but common sense seriously eluded the poor guy. |
also my parents just came back from his parents house it was his second time falling off teh bike the first time he fell bad and had a big surgery dont know details but this time he was racing and ugh no helmet which is dumb also they tried to save him but the surgery didnt go good

I can't say that I'm sorry for him.
I'm sorry for his family and his friends. Also, I don't agree with it being called a drag race either. |

To bad that happened. I wouldn't call it a drag race either, they were prolly just having a good time tearing s*** up & there was an unfortunate accident.
|
I've seen the cobra invloved with it before. It was from havertown. Yellow with black Saleens.
|
its a shame. I for one do not see any reason for criminal charges being put on the other driver, it is each drivers decision. You cant MAKE someone race you, the justice system should not put his death as the other drivers fault. No means to make a debate, just a personal comment. May he Rest in peace
