almost ****ed my day up

Today on my way to work the small metal cone in the middle of my inake filter broke out and got sucked into my intake, it got stuck in my throttle body but was like 2mm too big to slip past, thank god. I thought i would fill everyone in on my fun drive to work trying to figure out wtf was going on.

twastheglow 07-17-2008 01:08 PM

I bet you're feeling pretty lucky right about now huh? I would buy a lottery ticket.

TommyBDragon 07-17-2008 01:19 PM

Yeah I would buy me a lottery ticket too. In fact make it two...I'm feeling your feelin real lucky today.

SovXietday 07-17-2008 01:23 PM

That's actually fairly common. This is why you should always use quality air cones, just imagine if you had a turbo before your throttle body. ;)

TROLL 07-17-2008 01:26 PM

glad it wasnt worse. i'm trying to picture what small metal cone though... is it a k+n style filter or something different?

dragonfly2k3 07-17-2008 02:30 PM

actually, it was big enough it would not have fit in the inlet of even a t3, but a large turbo would have gotten pwnt. Its a k&n style, but more of a cheapass riceboys filter. Its got the cone shape, then at the end where the K&n would just have a black cap it has another cone that goes inwards, and at the center a chrome cap style thing, i will dig up a pic on google, hold up a min.

looks very similar to this http://www.pitstyle.co.za/Products/B...one_Filter.jpg
on the very inside of the smaller cone there is a chrome cap.

guess that motor doesnt suck that hard after all.

DPancoast 07-17-2008 02:35 PM

Sounds like a bad date haha... That's good that nothin happened though. That reminds me.... I'm gonna clean my air filter when I get home. I bet it's filthy.

stock efff series? it is teh blow. Im sure it would have been way too big to actually go down any of the runners if it had gotten past, but i still would have had to pull the throttle body to get in and grab it.

KingOfDelco 07-17-2008 02:55 PM

cheap Pep boys ricer cone filters FTMFL. what a great design flaw for an intake.... I'm guessing it was just glued in there, as opposed to having a lip to sit on to prevent that exact thing. How many miles did u have that filter on for?

did it scuff up your TB or anything?

dragonfly2k3 07-17-2008 02:58 PM

it was just glue on, its been on different cars for like 50k+ im sure, but no, it really didnt do any other damage. It seems ok now, although it certainly scurred some poop out of me.
