Is accelerating quickly considered a traffic offense?

Like the title says, I was on my way to a meet and at the light before the entrance, I got on it in order to pass the car next to me so I could get into his lane. I pull up to the meet and everyone told me how "smart" I was doing that in front of a cop sitting at the meet who had been running everyone's license plates. I didn't go over the speed limit, so did I run the risk of getting a ticket? According to the people at the meet, I could get a ticket for it but I want a second (better) opinion.

You could be pulled over for cutting off the other driver its slim but if the police were sitting at that location looking for violators you just painted a big target on your back with that move.

I understand, I don't think I cut the other driver off because I was a decent distance away from him and I didn't exceed the speed limit (first time I got pulled over I was doing 69 in a 50, so now I pay MUCH more attention to speed limits and my speed)

Thanks!

Don't Sweat it then.
