leniency period for registration?

how soon after the tags expire do you have before an officer wouldn't allow the "I'll do it as soon as I get home." excuse or something like that. I got a ticket for it and my car is 20 days out of it...is that too long even if I went home right away and re-registered? It was in Delaware too if that makes a difference...any help would be great, thanks.

I just reread that and it sounds a little arrogant, sorry if it comes off that way...I in no way intended to sound like an ass.

One day can be too long if your in an accident. The fact that you got away with 20 days before you were summons is unbelieveable. Just make sure next time you take care of this before you have to be corrected with a summons.
