upgrading to vista

yaaaaay...

get almost done the whole upgrade thing... error... upgrade dvd destroys XP, microsoft people are morons..

xp reinstalling...

luckily, my HD is partitioned, so the important stuff is on one of those partitions... hopefully the **** is safe... if not... vista upgrade dvd will be used to do a clean install...

ubuntu 8.0 is on a cd and on stand by... I need a version of windows though... warhammer online is nearly out

Don't do it! Seriously, Vista is horrible. It has some neat little gadgets but too many stupid little bugs and crap to be worth it. Stick with XP.

Scapegoat 06-16-2008 09:30 PM

lol, we'll see... i can stand bugs... i use windows every day anyway lol... worst case I reinstall xp... thats if I can get vista installed...

pearl 06-16-2008 09:32 PM

vista = not an upgrade

Scapegoat 06-16-2008 09:33 PM

i spent $120... i'm going to see it work lol... if after that I don't want it... its gone :)

i'm more annoyed by the 500gb sata hd I bought... when my pc can't use it lol

gonna hold onto it for when I build a new one

ScoobyNubieToo! 06-16-2008 09:39 PM

I dunno......been using Vista since December with no issues. Works just fine for me. However, I would always do a fresh clean install and never an upgrade.

Vista = poop.

I'll be going Mac for my next laptop, not just because I need one for school, but because Vista sucks so much.

olletsocmit 06-16-2008 10:15 PM

Vista sucks balls!!! don't upgrade.

05GT 06-16-2008 10:15 PM

Yeah, lets get a Mac because Vista sucks. People crack me up. Vista is the best OS to date from Microsoft yet. Those who think its "poop" and have problems with it clearly don't know how, or don't have the hardware to run it properly. Use it right, and there are far less problems with it then any previous OS.

i agree and I don't even have it installed... ****ing XP disc doesn't come w/ any drivers, so I can't upgrade to vista b/c of it...

reformatting the partition that had the XP on and reinstalling from scratch... but I still won't be able to get online... are there any sites that have zips of drivers that I can download that I can just point the driver update to?

lagos 06-16-2008 10:48 PM

There is nothing wrong with vista... but there was.
The first shipping version of it had a few bugs and a lot of the new drivers were not available for it, so people started saying it "sucks".
Now that its been out for a while, and service pack 1 has shipped, its actually a good OS. Granted its a little slower on older machines (you should have at least 2gigs of ram), but the security and usability features are a huge improvement over XP.

Yes, MS could have done better with it... but its not as bad as people make it seem.

SvicksTc 06-16-2008 10:54 PM

I think Vista is a decent operating system, it seems like alot of the complaints come from people who dont have a good computer and try loading such a visual and big OS like Vista, i have been running vista on my PC for about a year now and have never had one problem with it, and actually like all the new visual features it offers having a High Def TV hooked up with a good graphics card makes Vista shine. I also run Yellow Dog on my PS3 and trying to work out running the new edition of Ubuntu Hardy Heron so i have background on linux and microsoft OS systems and have to say Vista does not equal poop unless your computer your trying to run it on is poop or just another person trying to rag on Microsoft and have no expierence with even using VIsta

Spocknasty 06-16-2008 11:05 PM

Ahhh, the uneducated.

Vista owns XP.

dnasty2g 06-16-2008 11:12 PM

Yea I've had Vista since I bought my new pc and haven't had one problem with it yet. My only complaint is that it asks me to approve alot of stuff before it opens. Which im used to now and doesnt really affect me.

I actually prefer to use my pc now over my laptop which is running xp.

U do know what you can go into the bios and turn that off.

edit: I'll even tell you how. click on the Windows Vista logo at the bottom left of the screen. Then click on your little avatar picture which opens up user accounts, you should see it there, you get 6 different options the very last one called Turn User Account Control on or off.

Scapegoat 06-16-2008 11:42 PM

nice, found the ethernet driver using my laptop... vista is performing a clean install now... hopefully this will work just fine...

I could def use the nifty windows aero stuff and moving files and **** around during work... move easily between code, design, photoshop, etc

3gb of ram... little worried about the pentium 4 though lol... either way, this should keep me good till i get the rest of the computer parts from newegg for the new computer... course... the money dropped on the 2gb is a waste (ddr) but ah well...

Scapegoat 06-17-2008 12:01 AM

thank god... success...

jspek 06-17-2008 12:10 AM

yea since i bought a new laptop, i havent had any issues with vista. everything i need to get done my laptop gets done with no problems. i dont miss xp at all.
