Smart Cars are Stupid (Rant)
I dont see the point. They get a combined mpg of 36. A Civic does about 30-35 depending on how you drive. In a Smart Car you seat two people and you have a p.o.s that I could kick off the road. In a Civic you at least have a backseat and you won't die when someone bumps into you on their bicycle. They are not even cute as some would say. They look like a VDub Beetle, Scion xA and xB, and a PT Cruiser all had a massive orgy and the result is the Smart Car. The father will be announced on Maury next Tuesday.

My one friend is obsessed with these things. They really don't impress me. 2seats, alright mpg, death trap. Just get a mini cooper.

the 'Busa powered smart is awesome, but thats it. I hate those cars. I can fit one in the back of my wagon if I tried to.
And they are friggin EXPENSIVE for what they are. Just get a civic, or even a civic hybrid. |

I know of the Smart cars with hayabusa motors. Which are sick and all, but for the practicality of the stock Smart Car they're pretty useless here. 36mpg is bull**** for what you're driving.
redline, they may be useful there in Germany because there are a lot more small cars...but here you'll be rundown by a 7 year old girl on a tricycle. |
The only reason youd die in one is if you got run over by someone in giant SUV, and in since in america bigger=better, smart cars wont work here, at least not until SUVs start to disappear.

Smart cars actually got the highest crash test rating it could get

Give it another 5 years and I bet most of us are driving something very similar to work on a daily basis. It just doesn't make much sense to drive the size of vehicles we do for transporting 1 person. It is pretty nice to be able to back into sidewalk parking space, but I agree that they are overpriced here. Wait until the Japs start bringing their metro cars here for this to take off.
I also don't like the "arms race" mentality that most Americans have with big vehicles and their "bigger = safer" logic. They are only safer for the people inside of them, but more dangerous for everyone else on the road. |

At 8K Euro for a brand new car, O'l Redline might be driving one back and forth to work here shortly. Plus if I want to take a trip get in it and go, the Evo is cool and all but damn gas is killing me if I want to travel around Europe. You'll be laughing if I buy one! I was going for a R32 or R33 and the money I saved for one might be going into a smart car.

I like em(rare for a new car). Not a new concepts though. Harkens back to the days of the BMW Isetta and the Messerschmitts. It'll do better in the American market than those did(in relation), but not as good as one would think. 93 93/93 |

But here in the US, in most of the suburban areas, there is not too much of a need for something that small on the outside. As for the people riding around in their Escaldes, Excursions, Suburbans, and crap like that, ALONE, ALL THE TIME, someone please off them. There is no need for a vechile of that size, to carry around 1 person. Hell, my wagon is too big for me most of the time, and its 1/4 of the size of these things. |
To be honest, I would feel safer on a bike and feel that I got my money's worth.
