KA24 rough idle

Not the T/b, just cleaned it
Not a bad cylinder, Good across the board
Not the wires, newer
Not the Dizzy, newer
Not the plugs, brand new
Not the battery connection, re-did it yesterday
Not a bad ground, everything i checked was fine

Vaccum leak? anyone have any idea? i cant find this vac leak either. The only other possible thing i could think is the MAF, i cleaned it but it kept running rough. Ideas? input? Please help...

Like I said in the WTB thread for the MAF
It may be the IACV hose to the short ram or the IACV itself
Did you take out the TB to clean it?
If so your TPS may need to be readjusted

get some tb cleaner and spray it down the iacv hole it'll feel better unless its not that then it wont lol

ok SO ....

we change the plugs and wire, rough idle goes away for the most part but just as you start to drive the car its fine, until you put load on it and it then goes into this ****ty idle, no power and starts missing.

....Dizzy? so we check the dizzy, it looks clean.... any ideas?

After replacing the distributor and setting it up all right, we get the car running. Still sounds like a slight miss is going on but i hop in the car and take it for a ride around the block. when doing so the first 20 seconds is fine. give it about 40% throttle feels fine, then right back to ****ty idle and a hard miss starts again.... I didnt get it, until john had explained a little something we may have looked over. the compression test would show fine accross all the cyls, but when the car was running with a ****ty idle you pull the plug wire on cyl 3 and it stayed the same, not changing or getting worse. Basically pointing out the fact that when you do a compression test oil can go down into the cyl, helping create a seal since its not being burned off and can like so make a a fine reading on the gauge, but when the motor is on and the oil is burning creating no compression in the 3cyl.

ok so not that anyone cares but....

ok after replacing everything, spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, and distributor, We have came to the conclusion that my #3 cyl is shot, and its time for a new motor. No clue how this happened, the motor has always ran strong for me and i never did anything wrong to make it die on me like this...

Donations for SR?

i had the same problem in my 240 cyl #3 too when i pulled the spark plug wire one cyl #3 nothing happened but when i compression tested it that cyl was the highest so i changed the spark plugs wires and rotor and it was still messed up....car was sitting around for a few weeks and i got pissed and started the car about every other day and rev the **** out of the engine and one day it just worked again weird but i think it was the fuel injector were clogged and one of my wires was going bad....did you test out the external igniter or coil the thing the 5th wire from the distributor is connected to....and a way to test out the maf is to disconnect it i think you will only be able to rev the engine to 4k....by the way do you have a dual cam or single one

Gorilla Unit 33 06-05-2008 12:30 AM

maf was tested and it has a brand new igniter. the motor is a dohc

are you sure you don't have a leaky injector on #3? Are you running rich? pull the plug and check it for fuel...

would it still miss? I'll check it but then why would it run at idle normal and then one load is put on the motor, run like crap. Got an extra injector? im willing to try anything to save me from puttin out for an SR right now lol.
