Instead of using the bolt if you have a tripod with a quick release plate just attach the string to that. Also use decent string or you'll find yourself pulling up hard to get tension and then snap the string.

OMG a string!

BlackTypeR 04-11-2008 09:35 PM

Brilliant! I'm trying it.

Wow I might have to take my Cybershot to Lowes or Home Depot and find a screw to fit it. This would be much cheaper than a tripod LoL.

While its a cool idea, I wouldn't expect this to work as well as a tripod. Probably better for video guys that are trying to get more steady shots while panning.

grimm 04-12-2008 09:10 AM

it's not meant to replace the tripod totally. it just offers more stability when you don't have one, or don't have the ability to use one.

better than leaning against a wall, its definetly simple and awesome, it would definetly look funny though

all tripod mounts are 1/4-20 size... (thats 1/4" by 20 threads per inch. )

james_ls 04-25-2008 10:48 AM

Looks crazy.

I'm gonna give this a shot.

I saw this on DIYP a little while ago... not bad for a dollar i guess.

Agreed, but video guys would benefit most from a homemade steadycam; http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/steadycam/
