BlackZ05's 84 Camaro Build *Updated 4/21/09* Parts On there way!!

This car has been on my Signature forever now so i figured i'd make a journal for when we actually start to work on it. I'll give some background on the car first. I bought it orginally as a 305 with a whole 190hp an any honda civic SI could walk all over. After about 6 months we dropped the ECU an motor to swap in a GMPP 350 block which worked great for awhile before it ate the tranny. By the time winter came full force Sled my Mechanic an his buddy had already swapped in a Cam an rockers an built Turbo 350 with a nice size stall converter. We took it to atco the first nice day we could an it ran a 13.7 with out launching it an spinning most of first.

So when summer started getting hot I accidently over heated the motor sitting in traffic. So off to AE Tech the motor went to be fixed an checked out, about 2 weeks later it was back in an we were estimating mid to high 12 second car untill about 4 months later when it ate the Air Cleaner bolt an killed a piston. That was all about 6 years ago now, Since then Sled an Sponsored1 have talked me into going extreme with it. Sponsored1 built a 434 drag motor ready to breath in some laughing gas while Sled an my self pieces together everything we need to finish the car which is still continuing for another couple months. To upgrade a 305 camaro basic coupe into what should be a drag car sometime this summer took a ton of work between both of us an some research. So as of 2 weeks ago sled was back in the shop with the car after 6 years of sitting around out front of the shop. He started ripping out the interior an reducing weight an checking the body to see if it was still solid which it is. No hint of bad rust or anything that cant be fixed with minor effort.

He started to install a manual steering rack an rip out some un-needed stuff in the engine bay.

Sled had to drive to NY to pick up the full built Turbo 400 with Trans Brake since the old Turbo 350 wouldnt work with the new setup.

An Sponsored1 dropped off the motor probably a year ago which has been sitting in the corner of the shop under a bag haha.

I order some massive Lemon long tube headers with almost 3" inlets.

An we put on a new 6" cowl hood.

Just gotta buy a Gas tank to Sump now an stall convert an it should be ready to roll. Also gotta grab a set of weld skinnes for the front.

Full front suspension is in, Ford 9" is at a shop being put together but waiting on new Wilwood brakes to be shipped *wrong ones sent the first time*.
Stall Converter is now on its way just little things left to do along with the cage.

Wow. Looks like its going to be a sick car when its all said and done. Where are you going to run it at?

Always liked that body style. You can make a true sleeper with that car. Looks like a fun build up.

PhillyLS1 04-03-2008 05:45 PM

You can get those 3rd gens light. I went to 2 inch headers and I thought I was going a little extreme for the street ;)
Looks like fun. Keep it updated.

SleeperGoat 04-03-2008 06:55 PM

thanks everyone! I will definitely keep this updated so you can see the build. yeah im hoping it will be semi-streetable to cruise around. im planning on running it atco probably at track rentals. its a high compression spray motor so it should be fun, that's why there huge headers philly hehe. I have a fiber glass front end for it to sitting in the shed just gota get a body guy for it. anyways thanks again maybe sled will post more details cause I just pay the bills an drive haha.

All i gotta say is this is a lot of work and i almost wish sponsored1 didn't talk me into this. The car should be about 2900lbs when done and run 9s on motor. its not gonna be much of a street car, but it will get driven around town. O and Jim (BlackZ05), its called a "trans break" not a line lock! lol

PhillyLS1 04-03-2008 10:50 PM

I say you leave the steering wheel! That thing is a classic.
How high is the compression?
What cam did you go with? What heads?

SleeperGoat 04-03-2008 11:13 PM

I think 11 an half to 1 but it migh be tweleve. the heads are dart pro 1's an not sure on the cam I know they changed it cause the first one was not streetable at all. id keep the steering wheel if it wasn't melting its gross from sitting in the heat for all that time.

JC Turbo 04-04-2008 12:27 AM

jimbo, it looks slow and redneck!

wow Jim you need to learn more about your motor, lol! its 13:5-1, brodix-11s and i cant think of the cam specs off the top of my head, but its a solid roller. sponsored1 built a ton of these for other people and they put out about 750bhp on motor. keep in mind its a nitrous motor and its gonna make a lot more on the bottle.
