Anyone into trains at all?
I'm trying to find some other people in the hobbies of railroading/model railroading. I'm really the only person I know of out of everyone I know.
|
i think they are cool, especially the sound of the slow churching diesel engines, but im more into the graffiti watching part

I was freakin in love with them Thomas the Tank Engine FTW!!! |
Trains are cool. I have a lot of O gauge at home but not permanently set up; I also have a decent size G gauge setup, that's the larger "garden" size trains. As a kid I had elaborate platforms set up with HO and O gauge, on 3 or 4 plywood 4'X8' boards.
One part of my engineering career for the last 35 years has been related to a solution to the problem of locomotive cooling systems freezing up ...they don't use antifreeze so as you can imagine, if they stop running in frigid weather, you got $100's of thousands of dollars damage, not to mention the cost of lost service. Anyway, so I've been around real trains and riding them and crawling around them all that time. I've also taken my kids for rides on some of the local old steam engines/trains. I have friends who are into small gauge model railroading. There is a cool place we go once in a while near Collegeville PA called Pennsylvania Live Steamers, you can go there, picnic, take rides on little trains; it's fun once in a while. Here's a typical pic from their website http://www.palivesteamers.org/Default.htm http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...vesteamers.jpg |

Though messing with train lines (Septa, Amtrak) will get you in big trouble. i been there and done it..got lucky in court but almost ruined my life cuz of it. you guys don't even know it but you have a resident graffiti legend on TST. Someone I admired when i was really into it in the 90's. but yea, trains are cool. |
My uncles on my dad's side are really into it.
I honestly don't see the whole draw of trains..... |
I am kinda, I have some HO scale trains. But never really bother to set it up completly.

I'm pretty much into trains. Have any of you guys been to Northlands? maybe its spelled with a z im not sure?
|
I've heard good reports about Northlandz and recall seeing the billboard that used to be on I-95 for the place, not sure if the billboard is still there. In case anyone's interested, it's in Flemington NJ http://www.northlandz.com/
Thanks for the reminder, I'll take my two boys there one of these days soon. Hey, another thing I remembered ...that Nicholas Smith Trains place that is now on West Chester Pike in Broomall is pretty cool as far as model trains of all sorts, especially their upstairs. And while you're there, you can pump up on some racegas at K & G Speed Shop next door. When I was a little kid I got a really cool old O gauge locomotive from Nicholas Smith back in about 1960 when they were located downtown Philly on 11th St. north of Market ...and that locomotive was already pretty old back then. I have no idea what it's worth now but I paid $120 for it in 1960. |

u should see my old buddies fathers collection, he had 3 rows of cars lined up in a case on his basement wall, and a huge model track with mountains and stuff, even with cctv
|
i have some old ones from when my dad was little. not sure of the sizes by guage, but the engine is about a foot long.
i also delt w/ Conrail out of Camden on a daily basis w/ tank cars coming into and out of eagle point refinery. emd....do you like working for norfolk? -brandon |
oh and when i lived out in the township a guy about a mile from me built his own RR so that it was easy to feed the cattle and as far as iknow he built and layed the tracks along w/ the engine and cars :)
