i know this has been prob covered already, but does anyone go there? i have an interview tomorrow and im thinking about starting there next fall.

if you go there, what do you like and dont like about it?

NOPSTNS 02-23-2008 04:56 AM

i went there from sept 04 to sept 05.

i walked around other tech schools and liked uti the best. but take my opinion with a grain of salt please.

i didnt like how they workd with settin up roomates for you. i didnt like how american biased they were. like ill allow some stuff, but it got out of hand.

all in all it was ok...just dont believe the hype about dealers needin techs and the workload is thru the roof and ull make 50k ur first yr and blah blah blah.

and btw skip the first three days...ull thank me....

My friends who've gone to UTI and others who've visited both campuses around here all agree the Warminster campus is much better than Exton due to new equipment, and a new facility. But that's just what I heard.

when do you start in the fall? right now they have me starting in the summer but i might have a trip that im going on so i might just start in the fall.

and what time are you going?

NOPSTNS 02-23-2008 08:58 PM

what do i mean?...

well for starters. the cars they had for u to work on...95% american.

the biggest insult to foreign cars was the power and performance classes. i dont kno how they teach it NOW but this is what we had to work on....DISCLAIMER: I was like the 6th class to have hot rod u so they were just starting up...but u could see where their priorities were...

American....
Mustang GT
2 camaros....both with v8s but one was lt1 and the other was ls1 i think? i dont kno engien codes...
pontiac gto...yet again another chevy v8....another ls1

so that makes 4 v8s....3 of them chevy....2 of the 4 were even the same goddamn engine for christs sake...
there was also a neon if i recall....base model...no srt4...no love for 4 bangers at all...and it gets worse...

Foreign....
Mini cooper.....base model...as in not supercharged
miata....base model..as in not turbo charged MS model
honda civic.....dont ask me what engine, it was a 1.6 thats all i remember and it was somewhat new.

like..the worst 4 bangers ever....no love....so sad, im not even a 4 cyl type of guy but i know favoritism when i see it!

those were the cars to work on, and the parts they had for the american cars were bountiful...we turbod the gto (which blew up btw....our fault) we put nitrous on the mustang and we supercharged the camaros...

for the foreign cars....o well we put a fuel rail on the civic and an intake on the mini and we changed the diff fluid on the miata. i kid u not....we confronted upper management on the situation and they said they had trouble finidn gparts for the foreign cars....

UMMMMMMM WHERE THE HELL WERE THEY LOOKING?

considering the abverage price they spent on the american cars (25k each when they were new) compared to the foreign cars (15-18k when new if ur lucky and got ripped off) they had a huge difference there.

we asked about the choice of cars and they said they bought them from car sense and they took whatever car sense sent them...bull ****.

if they had foreign cars in the performance class of the americans itd be a lot more interesting and make more sense. i would have liked to see a 350z an s2k and an e36 m3.....they said car sense didnt have any...uh huh.

then they had nascar fridays where u didnt have to wear a uti shirt on fridays but it had to be nascar if u didnt....

i asked when we would get Super GT monday or formula 1 tuesday or maybe even grand am wednesday but they said theyd "look into it:"

hahahhahahahah.

i could go on if ud like

JBWRX06 02-24-2008 01:52 PM

i;m not sure, possibly august or sept... when i get my car done

cmr076 02-24-2008 02:42 PM

UTI = biggest waste of money IMO, i hated every second of it. Its bull**** how they can take what you do outside of school and penalize you inside school for it (if you get like 3 speeding tickets and the school finds out your DONE) other wise i guess it was a good experience, rebuilding old ass 6cyl. american motors ill never touch again in my life and getting conned into spending too much money on tools. the only good thing i got out of that school was a bad ass jacket (that i had to pay for) that was subsequently stolen when i was in one of the labs. UTI = FAIL.... although im sure people are gonna come back with "you get out what you put in".... ill leave you with this, one of my good friends who went there and graduated in the top of his class (got a ton of they little gay pins) is now working at tires plus making 12+/- an hour (and he did basic, ford fact, and diesel.

yea i really dont understand that idea of 3 tickets and done bull****. i think some things are a bit much like i have to take out my hoop earrings and put in studs. i think thats a bit over board. i can understand my snakebites cause they want it to be like professional and junk, but no hoop earrings??? ive seen plenty of dealerships where the techs have hoops in.

what do you mean spending too much money on tools? they never said anything to me about having to buy my own tools. they said they are supplied to me.

they do supply tools (except the multi-meter), maybe it was just me but i feel like i got tricked into spending upwards of 7k on tools because they were such a "great deal" haha maybe UTI just wasnt for me, but i have never heard any positive feedback from anyone that went there.

one of the good things about UTI for me was that it made me realize i didnt want to be a tech, and now im well on my way to law school and hopefully a ilttle more than 12+/- an hour :-p

im happy for u..it took me a lil bit As a tech to realize i dont wanna be a tech...

im kinda stuck in neutral right now so far as a job goes bc my current job as a tech for mazda sucks so bad. there is no work and what little work i do get is such crap,.

im glad u went to school to be something else...i am thinking of other things to do....

ThePrimerSuspect 02-25-2008 06:53 PM

damn does everyone hate being a tech? i mean, i know i do. but goddamn i didnt realize that i wasnt the only one. i went to ATC which is basically the same deal. the only guys i know that are making money are the ones who busted their balls all throughout school and got into BMW or mercedes. i went to lincoln-mercury, then on to honda, then on to unemployment. dont believe the bull**** they tell you to get you to enroll. there is NO demand for techs. you WILL NOT make anywhere close to $50k your first year. it took me 3 years to peak at $45 then its been a slow decline ever since, til i couldnt afford to do it anymore. once you get out into the field you have to lie, steal, and backstab to make any money. there is no room for honesty in the business, there are no friends in the business. everyone is out for themselves and the guy you work next to everyday will throw you under the bus the first chance he gets if it makes his paycheck a little bigger. oh, and this has been every single place i have worked. whether it be a dealership or a private shop, its all the same. my advise is to forget about being a tech. but i know where you're coming from because everyone told me that, and there was no way i was going to do anything else. i truely feel that the last 5 years of my life were wasted and that i could have been in a much better state mentally and financially if i had done something else with my life.

05suby 02-26-2008 04:33 AM

thanks for all the input guys. thats why im getting my associates in criminal justice just incase it doesnt work out. i graduate in may with that. i basically want to do performance but i have to do all the other stuff also which is fine. i just hope it works out. like i said before the only thing i dont understand is the 3 ticket junk and no hoop earrings lol. i know that is petty **** but its just weird.

JBWRX06 02-26-2008 08:32 AM

that was the greatest part, they take all these kids 30k and tell them theyll make it back there first year.... i bet the ONE person from the exton campus who got into porsches manu. specific program made like 40k and now they tell everyone they can too.... what a bunch of ass holes... and the performance program wasnt worth paying for the entire tuition.
