Street-race crash kills 7 in crowd
 

ACCOKEEK, Maryland (AP) -- Seven people were killed early Saturday when a car plowed into people apparently gathered to watch a street race on a suburban two-lane road, police said.

The car went out of control on Route 210 around 3:40 a.m. and slammed into the crowd standing on the roadside, Prince George's County Police Cpl. Clinton Copeland said.

A tractor-trailer that came by shortly afterward may also have struck someone on the road as it tried to avoid the crash, he said.

"It's probably one of the worst scenes I've seen," Copeland said. "This is a situation that could have been avoided, and it's a very tragic situation." VideoWatch sheet-covered bodies strewn along road »

Four people were taken to hospitals, Copeland said. Their conditions weren't immediately known.

Investigators were working to piece together the chain of events and had "more questions than answers," Copeland said.

It is the spectators fault for standing in the middle of a highway at 3 AM! The driver of the white sedan allegedly was driving without the headlights on so the driver is at fault to some degree, not necessarily for the deaths (man slaughter) but this could have been avoided on his part.

Holy crap the white vic wasnt racing just happend to be out that late and went into the tire smoke and couldnt see..... Wouldnt a normal person stop and see whats on the other side of the smoke then just to fly through it?

Did you even read the articles posted? The racers didn't kill anyone.

I was reading it, and there was a 60 some year old guy, a 30 some year old guy, and a few other older people who were killed in this.

This wasn't just a gang of kids out racing around. These people were adults!

Still, street racing makes honest track guys and tuners look bad.

From what the media was showing, the sedan driving with the lights off swerved off the road and into the crowd... But either way, everyone was at fault here IMO. It's ridiculous to do this on a highway with so many people.
