car wont start...please help!!
Ok, when I left for iraq(apr) my car was stock and running fine. I got home in Dec and put on evo3 turbo, ported 2g mani, 550cc injectors, aeromotive fpr, magnecore wires, intercooler, 2g mas, gauges(boost, a/f, egt), turbo timer, safc, apex'i turbo back exhaust. I just finished installing everything and now the car wont start. I tried jumping it but still nothing. I found out that the alternator fuse in the engine bay(close to the intake filter) was blown and replaced that but still nothing. The car would crank but never turn over. All the belts would turn as I crank the car and according to the aeromotive fpr I'm getting 37psi's of fuel pressure. I wanna try to eliminate all possible problems so if you know of something that can be wrong, PLEASE tell me.

check the settings in the afc make sure they are where they need to be

Did it start after you got back from iraq but before you put on the new parts?

I'd have to agree with Vince and say that you should learn how to use the afc and make sure your set correctly. Check out some of the dsm sites and look for help on tuning.

The very first operation with my AFC-NEO was to program in the vehicles sensor set-up and options. The SAFC has the same initial setup requirement.
For the SAFC to function you must FIRST run through a few sensor selection parameters; 1 - Setting the sensor type and sensor number (MAF). 2 - Setting the number of cylinders. 3 - Checking the throttle sensor voltage. 4 - Setting the throttle sensor type. 5 - Learning the throttle opening. 6 - Correcting the knocking signal. Only after this, should you see if the vehicle will start. There should be a way to remove the SAFC from its wiring harness and jump the connections on the harness in a way to go back to factory engine management only if you want to see immeadiatly that it is the SAFC is the problem. As my own rule of upgrades, one at a time… Do the fuel system first, then the fuel control. Get the car to run correctly in terms of fuel delivery (from idle to WOT), then add all extra components. The Areomotive sounds as though it is working, do you have a mechanics stethoscope to find out if the injectors are clicking? If you are sure it is not what I mentioned above, it could be from the upgraded hardware. As of what I am reading, it could be the injectors need a new resistor pack, faulty MAF I/O, or other engine management anomaly. I have personally experienced “no start” situations with a faulty MAF, although this could be from the SAFC’s initial settings being incorrect. Do you smell fuel when you try to start it? You have quite a bit of modifications done, worst case scenario, just start a list of components and engine management systems that ARE functioning properly. Work your way to focus in on where the problem may lay. User manual for the APEX’I SAFC-II. Adobe http://www.apexi-usa.com/pdfInstallation/15.pdf Post back when you get this figured out and good luck… |
Ok, I got it started up. Something in the back was unplugged(serves me right for working with my wife's headlights for light). The car is running but now it starts up rough and dies when car is revved in neutral.

Good to hear! :)
You have a sweet set-up and would break my heart if it were sitting too long. You have your plate-full with the tuning though, for that is quite a bit of modifications to be tuned in a day or two. BUT, that TSi is going to haul tail when you do get it tuned in! Keep us posted on your progress (in another thread of course). Also, thank you for the military duty! I really do not have the nerve to go into combat, being a nerd and all.:o I hope you are home for good but if you have to go back, please be safe. Again thank you! :prayer: |
is the sensor type set on Karmen, 4cyl, throttle upwards.
