Rattling coming from engine.
 

Ok guys something in my engine is rattling and I can't figure out what it it I tried taking a look at the heatshield, but it does not look like it is rattling. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what may be rattling or how to check what is rattling. The problem is it does not always rattle. It only does it like when if the car needs to be downshifted like if i were going really slow in second gear and tried to accelerate. So like when there is a lot of vibration.

i'd still bet its a heatshield. either turbo if you dont have every bolt in it, or uppipe if its stock and possibly the tack welds broke.

I'm prolly going to have some one rev it while I listen for the rattle. It may be the heatshield I think I'll just take it completly off to see if it goes away.

wheres it coming from? like what area?

Did you check your exhaust hangers toward the front? Sometimes one pops out and it can cause that kind of sound.

my heat shield on my 3rd cat rattles at the same times you are mentioning. the tack welds on one side are busted. the other side is still good. I would think it's that. if you have an after market exhaust it might be the exhaust hangers that are too short, and you can pick up the kartboy extra long ones for like $10-$13 a pop.

It weird though cause it has not done since the exhaust was installed which was September, then like a few weeks ago it started.

mine rattles mainly during winter, summer time it's hardly noticeable.

Its just driving me crazy that I can't figure out whats rattling.

are you running the stock TMIC ??

I'd be willing to be the bracket on your DP that bolts to the tranny is broke. no biggie, weld or chop it off.

Not trying to hijack your thread but mine does the same thing, but only under full boost. sounds like a rattleing, like a heatshield or somthing...

I removed all my manifold, turbo, and up pipe heat shielding to try and eliminate the noise, but still happens

Fixed this weekend. It was coming from the coolant over flow tank I installed when I did the frontmount.

It could be your downpipe hitting your tranny. When I had my wrx, I had that massive TurboXS DP and was having the same problem.

But is most likely your heatshield. If not the shield over your turbo, could the the one over the exhaust manifold.

My 04 WRX had a rattle until I installed headers. I assume it was the exhaust manifold shield.
