Opinions: Rebel XTi kit

I want to get into taking nice pictures, editing, all that good stuff and have been looking into getting a good Camera to begin with. I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/CANON-EOS-Digita...QQcmdZViewItem

I know it's ebay, and i doubt i'd end up getting it from there, but what are your opinions on that kit. Would just the rebel w/ the 18-55mm lense suffice?

Don't get just the 18-55 lens for starting out. You'd be limiting yourself. I'm not sure exactly what you'd be taking shots of, but I have an 18-135 on a Nikon D80 and it is a pretty good overall lens. I'd recommend getting the 18-55 and the 70-200.

And about ebay...I've never bought camera equipment from it, or any electronics for that matter, because if anything goes wrong I'd rather be able to take it to the shop I bought it from. Just the way I am. I got my camera from Best Buy and got the extended warranty.

I actually bought this one here and opened to find out it was PERFECT and NEW. I upgraded from the rebel xt which was an awesome camera. Onl difference is I got real nikkor lenses and not rip offs.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. And what you will be shooting.
I got my xt with the kit lens and didn't get any other lenses till a year later. the 18-55mm is some what limiting. But it's a good starting place for you to decide what you are going to need.

I'd like to stay in the under $800 range.

Is the d40x on the same lvl as the xti?

dont waste money on the d40x. the d40 is on the same level minus the mega pixels. and from what ive seen, that camera is capable of nice pictures.

Thats the reason I got the D40x over the D40 so when I take the photo up to 300dpi its not grainy like most 6mp cameras tend to do.

*Also does would anyone know if a lens hood for a 70-200 lens fit on a 55-200 lens?

A used 20D and a used kit lens will cost you $550. Learn the basics of photography and upgrade to a better walkaround lens, such as the Tamron 17 50 2.8 or Canon 17 40 4.0L. You'll appreciate this bit of advice a year from now. You'll eventually spend money on a telephoto lens and a prime lens. Canon 70 200 4.0L for a budget telephoto, Canon 70 200 2.8L non IS or with IS if you're not on a budget.

For primes, Canon 50 1.4 or Canon 85 1.8 are good to start.
