new laptop
So I will be searching for a new laptop in two weeks. I was wondering what everyone would recommend. I have an HP Special Edition L2000 (live strong laptop) and I like it, its 3 years old had some probs with it and woke up this morning and my backlight broke. So I had light on the screen ran to my neighbors and borrowed his old Monitor and have it all ghettoed up right now.
Parents and grand pop decide for x mas to chip in on a new laptop for me. I feel bad because well obviously it still works, and I do have a 19inch lcd screen at home I can use and run it like a desk top. But they are pretty much insisting on getting me one. I dont really play any games (but I wouldnt mind one that can handle a game or two) and use it for music, writing papers, presentations and AIM pretty much. What would everyone recommend. I dont know how much they are going to want to spend so im saying sub $1000 price range. So whats TST think of a new laptop for me? I saw this one on bestbuy.com, but I dont know as much about comps as many of you guys. So help me out! |

What size screen are you looking for? Do you carry it around at all, or is it mostly sitting in the house on a desk?
Being as you arent using it for gaming.... that opens up a lot of space for lower to mid end stuff. HP and Dell would be the first (and really only) places I would look. Since everything now is shipping with Vista, look around for something that has AT LEAST Home Premium. If you can get one with XP still though (i know some business ones MIGHT still have it), then go with that, but thats because im biased against Vista really. Some things to look for in a newer laptop: Processor: Around 2.0ghz RAM: 1gb at least HDD: For music and video, maybe 160gb or so (unless you have an external) Video: 128mb maybe, will play some older games, nothing really too graphic intense Screen: 15" or 17" CLD if you carry it around a lot Battery: Try to get the larger battery if you dont have the option of sitting on the charger all day If you want some help finding some specific, decent models, PM or IM me, and ill try to help out. |
