blown header gasket on a 99 mustang PLZ HELP!!!
 

ok so i got a 1999 3.8l mustang with bbk 1 5/8 shortyheaders on it and yesterday the gasket sealing the headers ripped/blew out
as a result im leaking exhaust gas causing the computer to think my mixture is all fu*** up and so my car runs like crap (due to the adjusted fuel ratio)

#1- what can i expect to pay to fix/replace the gasket
#2- are there and easy soultions to this and....
#3- any good shops around central jersey that will do it for cheap?

If you are talking about the header gasket (not a head gasket), it isn't too hard to replace. With limited knowledge of tools you could easily do it yourself.

get a gasket and 7/16th's wrench, it pretty easy.

Just loosen the header from the head, pull it off enough to pull out the old gasket and put the new one in. Make sure to srape both surfaces as clean as you can too.

Try something like a copper gasket if they are available for the application.

Where are you located? I have a few guys i know from other mustang sites that do great work.

and yeah trust me im not a fu**** idiot i put the headers on myself and its not as easy as it sounds, theres pretty much no space to work and i dont have the tools, shop space or time to do it myself so thats y im looking for some1 to do it for me

ps its a 13mm wrench not 7/16 but thx ne way man

why would it be 13mm? your working on a domestic wouldn't it be s.a.e? im a little confused.

My car is American and half the bolts are metric. 10mm is basically used on every single car made.

Lol idk if you guys know this but.. most common metrics will fit the same bolts that X/X's will.. Header gasket shouldn't be a major job if there isn't a ton of stuff in the way (newer car, you might have problems). Just undo all the bolts and slide the header away as much as you can. If you can get the old gasket off in one piece, great, if not, scrap off all the old one. Put the new on in, line it up with the holes, and tighten the bolts back down. Done deal.
