engine mounts and wheel noise!!

When if at all should you replace your engine mounts. Ever since i got in my accident i been hearing noises not heard before. example my right rear wheel makes a noise like if the rotor was warped and kept tapping on the brake pad so i relpaced the rotor and pads and it still is there so i think maybe the wheel bearing is shot but when i lift the car no wiggle in the wheel. any suggestions? also after like 20 mins of driving my exhaust starts to rattle. enough that it broke the hanger that was welded to the downpipe and i had to get it rewelded. i think it the motor mounts since every thing else is tight. i think its hitting the bracket that connects the center diff to the body. anyway if i go over a bump or make left turns is when i hear it. its starting to drive me nuts cuz i cant figure out what it is. all the suspension underneath the car is tight. i dont have a lift so i cant really check it out as good as i want to but i did what i could. any suggestions or experience with this problem? also the dog bone behind the motor is still solid it didnt break i thought about that first.

cut off the DP hanger, if it broke once it will break again, it doesnt do anything. My DP hanger broke on me and made alot of noise. I cut it off and havent heard **** in 2 years.

I told you too jim, you got rear ended. its never going to be the same. and your exhaust rattles because its 3" and the metal expands when it gets hot.

I cut my DP hanger off my new downpipe. It lost me two bolts and caused a crack in my old downpipe.

Yea .. You probably have a bad wheel bearing. People get into accidents and the impact is something that the bearing just doesnt like. It seems like every winter I was doing a bunch of wheel bearings, cause people would smash into curbs.

if it were to be the wheel bearing, couldn't hit jack the car up and see if the wheel 'wiggles'?

fastjim 11-16-2007 10:11 AM

YEAH thats how you tell if its bad and i did and NO wiggle so i know its not the bearing well at least im pretty sure.

and i guess its normal for the exhaust to rattle all the time. i mean it rattles bad when i hit bumps or make left turns..

Check to see if your dampener is blown. The whole assembly would wiggle.

fastjim 11-16-2007 03:18 PM

the damper is connected to the firewall right? can i wiggle it with my hand?

S.Milone 11-16-2007 04:06 PM

I mean damper = shock if it is blow the wheel will bounce around after bumps and all. It is a possibility.

fastjim 11-16-2007 05:24 PM

yaeh i know i need new shocks. im trying to get coilovers but they are so expensive. $800+.. off topic how is that datsun 240 or 280z you guys picked up going. and you know of any 240 for sale.. looking for a beater for a while, while my car is down being worked on. tell vince and pat JIM said whats up..

Not always. My wheel bearings (both) were bad for about a year. (r180 rear hubs). I would jack the car up from time to time to make sure the wheel wasnt falling off and there was no movement what so ever. But I would put the car up on the lift, got a long screwdriver put the tip on the hub, the other end to my ear and they were singin away. Hell I could hear it without the screwdriver.

ill try that. sounds like you might be on to something.
