Get a beater for now. Then, once you know you are squared away, get the swap done, and go from there.

DropTopChevy 10-22-2007 10:22 AM

Don't do the bike thing, even if you are in shape and love riding a bike. There will be a day where it will rain and suck monkey @#$%. Go with the beater idea.

go get a motorcycle permit and by a vespa for the time being.

PS it's mad hard affording to mod the car when you have rent to pay!

Been there done that. It blows cause usually the thought is "Oh rent is only $800" but reality is "Rent is only $800, electric bill $100, phone/internet/cable $100, food for the money $100, and on and on and on..."

I would just buy a beater and cruise it until you get your **** taken care of. Insuring a second vehicle (especially something older with liability) will cost next to nothing.

haha exactly, which is why I am now looking for a house. Rather not throw money away on rent anymore.

Kevin 10-22-2007 10:37 AM

Yea, buy a beater. Cheap as ****. Don't even work it. Just beat the **** out of it haha

mr_eh 10-22-2007 10:37 AM

honestly im not too concerned with modding and rent i mean yeah modding will be slower than cat**** can climb a hill but at least A. ill be on my own and B. ill have shelter and C. ill be away from all the stress with home life
and im really not in the position to be looking for a house lol as much as id love to own my own house i dont make enough to afford payments on a house ill be able to make do with my current pay + car payment + loan for swap + food + electric bill + rent + general stuff im looking into a few cars right now (all subies of course) i just need a cheap car 5 speed or auto definately a subaru and AWD 3000 and under

Intercooled T 10-22-2007 11:07 AM

i still owe money on my car either way with or without the swap it would be pointless at this point in time to try and sell my car again and have **** fall through again

D Money 10-22-2007 11:22 AM

Damn dude, that sucks. What do you do for a living? To afford to live on your own, afford a $10,000 swap, and a beater classifies you as making that cake.

That is what I was thinking but his post above said "loan for swap" and if that is the case I'd say that is a DUMB IDEA. A very successful man once told me "If you don't have money for something save for it. Once you have all the money if you still want/need it buy it cash in hand."

I understand that you're without a car but like others have stated buying a beater and SAVING for the swap sounds like a better solution.

Dave 10-22-2007 11:31 AM

you could move into my baby room and help pay off my mortgage ;)

Snoozie 10-22-2007 11:42 AM

ahahaha. Soon (hopefully, possibly) Keith and i will both be working in Jersey. So we'll take over the baby room for you Dave.

james_ls 10-22-2007 11:50 AM

You need something reliable.

Plain and simple.

Get a DD and start working those balls off.
