I think everyone on this site should go to that site and e-mail them at least once aweek for a 1/4mile drag strip or even a street night were they block a 1/4mile off on the oval track and let us do the street races. I know in TN thats how they drag race because they don't have a 1/4 mile track near them well with in 100miles.

I don't understand why? Isn't Atco long and straight enough? I thought they held street car events there. I also don't see how as the main straight on the tri-oval is really a curve and probably banked too. (Note: I don't really 'get' drag racing, it does nothing for me. So I don't know what makes one track different than the others other than length, crowds and cost).

From what I have heard the track is going to be expensive to rent (not outrageous but not cheap), which is the way to hold your own event there. The only events that the track will organize themselves will be the "members-only" track days. The rest of the events the track will be renting out the facilities to a particular club/organization/company etc. who will be running the event.

Has anyone heard about when the opening season schedule will be out? I have heard rumors about professional racing weekends like ALMS, Speed World Challenge and Grand-American Racing. I would love to get some concrete dates so I can plan my vacation accordingly.

They have been playing a commercial for the track lately on Comcast. Shows their ground breaking, progress, etc. I can't wait.

rocco 10-15-2007 08:02 PM

The track is showing as June 2008, and they better be on time if the D1 event is going to be held there

You may be too late. Before the groundbreaking (about a month before) I heard that they had over 700 requests for dates for 2008. They are also distributing dates and collecting reservation money already.

June/July 08 is the date range I hear also. Lightning will open first, then Thunderbolt. There is not a 1/4 mile track on any of the plans I have seen.

rocco 11-03-2007 01:09 PM

whats the difference lightning/thunderbolt?

Look at the map.

There are 2 road courses, the one towards the top of the map is "Lightning", the other "Thunderbolt".

I'm so psyched for this, REAL Road Courses in NJ!!!

rocco 11-03-2007 09:25 PM

i got you. same here i cant believe that it will be ready by the summer either i would expect it to be much more later like a few years from now. its so close to home too and if d1 will be there in 08 you can start a thread now il be there.

The Lightning track will be faster with larger radius curves and Thunderbolt will be more "technical" (read twisty).

At some point "in the future" the two may be linked to form one large circuit. The original plan called for one large circuit that could be divided. It seems a better for the business option was the split. I believe the "dream plan" is to connect them someday.

There will also be a kart track and a tri-oval, although I have not heard anything about the completion dates for them.
