radiohead in rainbow

has anyone seen what Radiohead has gone and done?

Radiohead will not be distributing their new album thru stores or thru a label. They have it available for download on their album site, not only that, but you can pay what you want to pay, the minimum is $.45 but you can pay anything above that, and be allowed to download the entire ablum. this is revolutionary!!! I read that Oasis and a bunch of other bands are in the works of doing the same thing, eliminate the middle man!

grimm 10-11-2007 04:34 PM

I bet 45 cents is what they got in royalties before... Pretty awesome setup.

lagos 10-15-2007 01:40 PM

actually ... you can pay anything you want. even $0.00. thats how i got my copy.
the cd is ALSO supposed to come out in retail stores later on, along with some additional songs on it.

All one of them.

Maynard, Reznor, and Lohner have always had unlabeled side projects. Like Puscifer and Renholder.

or maybe they were dropped. last 2 albums kind of sucked compared to downward spiral and fragile.

wgknestrick 10-15-2007 06:28 PM

Just downloaded it for 1lb

It's not very good either and like their weird Amnesiac/Kid A stuff. I only heard 1 song that was any good.

grimm 10-15-2007 07:08 PM

it took me a while to get into it. I like most of the songs now. started out only liking #4

The way the press release was worded made it sound like they decided to remove themselves... but this is possible too.

Tech Ni9e did this like 5 years ago; He released the entire album free on his website. The only difference between the DL and actual album was the album came with a DVD with music videos and stuff.

But I am glad to see more artists realize that todays technology is making big record labels increasingly useless. Years ago you really needed big label backing for distribution purposes but now it really seems that the only thing these big labels are good at is getting rich off of no talent hacks.

thats pretty cool, i love radiohead.

lagos- did you have to pay a service fee or something like that? I heard it was .93$

That, and before every song on the Tech N9ne album (Absolute Power I think??), was that there was the same intro, explaining why he had done that.

But yea, now, the biggest thing for labels is mostly touring, since they still pay for most of that. Otherwise, bands wouldnt need labels at all to play, record, distribute, and tour.
