Whats wrong with my car?
so today i was driving home from delco, i went to pass a guy at maybe 45 mph and downshifted into 3rd, no big deal, i pass get to the light and stop. put it in first start moving push in the clutch, move towards second, the shifter will not go into any gear. i have to almost force it in to get home, im obviosly not driving it right now, but what the hell happend? whats wrong with it?
|
Sounds like the shifter linkage popped off. What gears will it go into?
|
something similar happened to me about 3 weeks ago. Check the shifter cables at the trans first to see if the mount popped off. thats what happened to mine. The bolts backed themselves out. If that is not the case, check all of the linkage at the shifter.

what bill said

how does the clutch feel? normal? if the clutch feels normal i would say linkage.
|
linkage is fine from what i was told by. they said its someting internal in the transmission.
as for the clutch feeling normal? i personally have tohught that for about 5k miles thats it has felt differnt. everyone else thinks it feels fine besides me and my friend. and obviously i drive it everyday, so yea. the clutch itself is weird. it is almost to the point where the peddle is complelty out. also in order to start it i have to kick the clutch down all the way. lastly, when im driving, and push the clutch in all the way to the floor, the RPM shoots up about 100-300 RPM for about 1 or 2 secs and then starts going down |
so... the clutch has felt weird for the past 5k, and you're asking about whats wrong with your car?
even cleanneon knows better... |
what do you mean by kick the clutch all the way down? its not supposed to start til its pretty much on the floor anyway. is it hard to push in? if it feels stiffer than usual thats an indication that you may need a clutch soon. i ignored it in my civic and then the throwout bearing locked up, and wore out one side of the clutch to bare metal, leaving me stranded on I-76. also you said that the clutch isnt grabbing until its completely out? thats another good indication. lastly, if you cant get it into gear, it could be misadjusted (not sure of an adjustment with them) and could need a master cyl, slave cyl, or both. the reason i would lean towards the throwout bearing is mine did almost the same thing when it locked up, but my clutch pedal would release almost all the way to the floor. whatever you do, dont ignore it. it can get more expensive if you do (i.e. needing a flywheel instead of just a clutch/pressure plate)
|
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that your throwout bearing is messed up.
|
broken pressure plate, worn TO bearing, not sure on preludes but (slave cylinder/master cylinder) take it apart and see whats up

well since im yanking everything out im changing the clutch any input on brand and stage? im thinking stage 1 cause i dont like 2 drove it on my xgf car and **** i did not like it one bit
