Welding classes

Anyone ever take the welding class offered at Upper Bucks Tech School?? I'm seriously considering signing up, I just wanted to check to see if anyone has input on this program, or any other welding programs.

For anyone interested, the class runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-9:30pm, 9/25-11/22

Actually, I'm going to sign up tomorrow.

In for info! I want to learn how to weld.

The course is ~$320. Not a bad price for Welding I+II. It teaches the basics of Arc and Mig, which are easy to do, but I want to learn the technical stuff and make my work a little more attractive. I'm the weld booooger king.

What type of arc welding?
My stick welds are fine, mig is good as well, i need a little more finesse with tig tho. Lemme know how the classes work out.

I haven't tried tig yet, and the course description does not include it, but I need to start somewhere. My goal is to get certified. Why? I haven't got a clue.

Not a bad price at all. I have been doing a lot of welding lately and I suck pretty bad at it. Chicken scratched my downpipe so she holds, looking pretty is far from it but it works.

Now I just need to find the time, heh.

Tig welding is the fun part. The welds are real clean and attractive when you do it right.

I'll check to see if they offer day classes.

I'm really looking forward to this class, so it will probably be filled or cancelled or something. I'll be there today to register. Class limit is 12 people.

Welding takes practice. Classes teach you the basics and instruct you how and what to look for.

I took Collison class at WyoTech and am now I-Car welding certified, basically meaning I am consistent to the point that I can section cars while maintaining the correct bead width/height/penetration. It comes down to practice to make them look good and finding your heat and wire speed settings.

Here is a pic of my MIG welds from 2 weeks ago at home. It was almost 6 months since I touched my welder so they don't look the best. I'm still getting used to my Millermatic 180 welder b/c it is a 220v and when I have it set real low for sheet metal, the adjustments are very sensitive. I learned on Lincoln 110v welders at school.

I went up there and signed up this morning. The girl at the office says the class fill up every time, but usually right before the class starts. Right now, I am the second person to sign up. $319+ $5 out of district fee. Not bad.

is it always those days and times? maybe i can catch the next session of they mix it up.

Hehe... I wish it were that easy. Crappy looking welds most of the time dont have good penitration or are too hot. If a weld get too hot you loose strength and it will most likely crack under stress.

Welding is no joke. There is a reason why very good welders get paid alot of money. It took me about 6 months of playing with my TIG welder for 2-3 hours a day before I was at the level were I could do customer cars.

A good TIG welder is as good as gold. I have a Lincoln Electric Precision TIG 275. It has a water cooled torch, pulser, stick welding capability, it's a beast.

^^ Lincon, exactly what he said form over function is a no go...i have been mig welding for about 5 years, tig 2 years, and arc welding 2 years, and have to say, the classes that i took over at delaware tech were great, i mostly needed arc welding skills, but they go over everything with welding codes on the wire, different techniques, vertical horisontal overhead its great mig + tig, arc1 and arc 2 were great, classes or come see me for classes
