These pictures were taken around August 2006. During this time, the car was at its peak, and I was enjoying every minute of driving it. One night, it was close to 95 degrees out or so, with about 100% humidity, I was doing some spirited runs. The car was boosting a tad high around 23 psi, and afr's were in the mid 12's climbing to high 12's as it wound out in each gear. Motor started detonating like a little bitch, in which case I drove it home, and shut it down. Next morning I opened up the hood, and noticed coolant splattered out of the coolant reservoir. Was pretty sure I either killed the headgasket or cracked a cylinder. Used a coolant tester to see if there were any gases in the coolant system, and there was, so the motor was toast. Had an extra motor laying around at which first I was going to drop in, but decided to build up. Over the course of this past year, I have been collecting numerous parts, as well as running into many obstacles. The motor is getting a complete buildup, as well as a manual, fwd transmission.

Went with a Volvo M56h manual 5 speed transmission. I will be installing a Quaife limited slip differential, as well as a Southbend DXD 6 puck feramic clutch, and Sachs 707 pressure plate.

Volvo/Ohlins 8 way adjustable front struts/rear shocks with TME springs. Unfortunately I am unaware of anyone that makes a coilover system for the awd suspension yet. They make a coilover system for the fwd suspension setup, but that is completely different.

UPDATE:

Got the oil pickup tube on, got the oil pan on, and sprayed most of the block (minus the cam cover since it is powdercoated and the obvious).

The old motor/tranny setup will be taken out of the wagon this weekend so I can transfer some parts that are needed on this block.

ToyotaTat 08-02-2007 02:51 AM

WOW. clean brick, i like it

peteyturbo 08-02-2007 04:51 AM

Difinitely a bad a$$ build up..That thing is going to roast the CRAP out of those RA1's in FWD mode!!

JoshV70 08-02-2007 10:36 PM

Thanks for the comments guys. It should be a fun car when it's done. Wasn't able to work on it much tonight because I had to work but I managed to get the water pipe on, as well as the exhaust manifold gaskets, and manifold. Hope to get the turbo mounted up tomorrow as well as most of the turbo lines, but we will see. Can't work too much on the intake side because I still need the complete pcv system off of the old motor which I hope to have out this weekend. Enjoy.
