Bad dog problems
 

Some of you know Frankie, hes generally a good dog. he has a Dark side though and I swear its friggin evil.

We know that the ****box pet store that conned Susie into buying him abused him there because hes very very temperamental. The problem is that when he does something wrong and he knows he did wrong all hell breaks loose if you try and reprimand him for doing so.

Say for example he just went out and went to the bathroom and came back in and some how magically went again in the living room. Now naturally you aren't going to be like oh you silly dog, don't do that in here. You're going to let him know whether its a smack on the ass or just yell at him that he cant do that in the house.

What does he do? depending on how upset he gets he could just snarl and snap at you or.... he will flip the **** out and **** and piss everywhere while attempting to tear you to pieces.

We have tried everything but a trainer because we cant afford it. we've tried being calm with him and we have also tried taking him and putting him in his pen until he calms down. He is almost 2 and we have had him over a year and I just don't want someone to get hurt.

As for my thoughts, do you and Susie have a choke chain for Frankie? The problem is that he sees you/her on the same level as him. Meaning there is no alpha male. He does these things out of spite because you are reprimanding him. I would recommend that you do not smack him or hit him. From what you are telling me he has a low self esteem and lashes out from it.

Get the choke chain like I told you and keep it around his neck, when he acts out or does pees on the floor give him a quick correct (meaning pull quickly on the choke chain then release). And whatever you do you need to keep as calm as possible (meaning don't freak out and scream) when you correct him. Just a stern/firm "NO". Dogs can sense when you are scared, mad, upset, etc. and will react worse if you are screaming at him and what not while correcting him. Also look around online for local dog clubs near you. There is one near me that for a "donation" of $50 you get an 8 week course for any type of dog to really learn how to correct them and bring them into a social setting with different types of dogs.

Nitro was REALLY bad when I first got him, worse then Frankie. He would attack children the same size as him, growl at men, piss and crap all over my house, tear up furniture etc. etc. Now, he is the greatest dog I have ever owned and really listens to me.

2 ft piece of 2x4... thats what my dad used on our dogs when I was younger.

If they ran off, tore something up, etc, it was a smack on the ass. As they grew up they were the best dogs ever, never got nasty with anybody and were very friendly.

Just dont take it to the extent that you make them nasty dogs or that you could get in trouble for beating them. Dogs like that just look sad all the time and snap at anytime.

What!?! If your father ever got caught smacking a dog with a 2x4 those dogs would be taken away in a heart beat. Even if it's once or twice...

We rarely smack him or yell at him anymore for that reason. What we have been doing lately is just calming him down and putting him in the pen for a while. For some reason though I cant be anywhere around when hes in there, like only me. He has trouble to because the other 3 dogs in the house do whatever like sleep on the couches and bark at everything and nothing ever happens. We dont like him on the furniture and hes kinda too dumb to bark at stuff but when he does its usually because the other ones are. Like hes really not a bad dog at all, but I just dont know what to do with him anymore.

Try correcting him with a choke chain as suggested and walks. If he is nasty to you when he is in the pen I would suggest that you walk him. Just make sure he doesn't walk far behind you or in front of you. You need to present yourself as the alpha male to him.

When I walk him he doesnt get any slack so he walks next to me. So you are saying next time hes getting nasty throw the collar and leash on and take him for a walk?

NO no no! LOL, if you take him for walks good. I meant to just keep the choker part on and when he is bad give him the quick correct.

haha well thats a problem then, hes very good on the leash. Susie trained him on it. he actually can walk with out it. hes just got a bad attitude. when she gots on she can help me explain more

Yah cause beating him will totally make the dog understand. People that beat there dogs don't care to take the time to actually train them. A dog wants to be obedient and is happier when they are. It is not easy but some form of correction is needed. Sandy is correct so you could use a choke collar when used properly will correct the dog not injure the dog. It is going to take time and constant effort...

My dog used to bit when i would get out of bed. He would run under my bed and at night SNEAK ATTACK. It took me months of keeping one eye open and every time he would inch off his bed I would pick him up and say "Marley Stay" and after a while he did. NO more biting. I am not comparing but just giving you a quick example. A dog will always test his owner. If you stay consistent and not yell and scream or beat the dog they will begin to obey. Good luck

Well of course he is going to be good on leash. He has someone to guide and lead him. I get what you are saying and it could be dominance. He is smaller then the other dogs and the house is his "domain". When he is outside walking it's new territory, not his, it's yours. You just have to be the same assertive way inside the house as well.

I don't think my methods would work with your dog. I used to tell my dog "NO" in a stern voice and give him a smack on the hind end or on the nose , depending on what he did wrong. It wasn't hard enough to hurt him, but hard enough to let him feel it.

I think if you did that to your dog it would only make things worse for you.

Right, and he probably was not as bad as he is now. You don't have to walk him around the house again. Just keep the choke chain on it so when you catch him being bad you can correct. And when he starts lashing out/trying to bite he is a small enough dog that you can flip him on his back, hold him that way, and pinch his neck (not hard) until he comes down. Doing that further portrays your dominance over him. Like I said, if you watched The Dog Whisperer you will get a better grasp of what I mean.

LOL, no, he hardly ever hit them, and this was years ago.

It was just hard enough to make them feel, not to seriously hurt them.

I think one of the biggest problems are the other dogs in the house. My parents let them pretty much run the house. They sleep on the couches, bark at everything and beg when you eat. I HATE dogs that behave that way. So I will repremand Frankie for the things they let their dogs do. He sees them do whatever they want and he wants to do it too. Also when Im not there or in the other room. They will let him on the couch and stuff. SO pretty much they are underminding me. When I say something to them about it, it turns into a huge thing and we usually wind up in an argument. Im pretty much at my wits end. If I cant get him under control Im going to have to give him away. Its the last thing I want to do but, I fell pretty hopeless.

No no last thing you want to do when he gets like that is try and touch him period. You have like this whole millisecond when you might have a chance.
