Help with cluncking noise
 

Can anybody help me? This started about 2,000 miles ago. A slight clunk over small bumps and road imperfections. I thought my struts were beat and I bought coilovers and installed them but the noise is still there. It's a clunking noise coiming from the rear and it's driving me nuts.

I just greased my rear sway bar bushings and endlinks, also greased the struts. HELP ME before I go nuts.

do you hear it when you shift fast?

No. If i'm in N and roll over bumps I still get it.

same exact noise as you had with the other suspension or has it changed at all? i'd say swaybar bushings or endlinks, actually i think i already said that to you. if its not that, check to make sure the top nuts of your coilovers are torqued... if its not that... um... check for play in bushings? not sure...

Same noise as before I swapped suspension. Top nuts for strut mounts are like 14lbs right? I'm sure everything is tight.

I might take the sway bar off and see if that does anything. This is seriously driving me insane. My car sounds like a **** box as I drive down the road.

on my tein flexes the center top nut that holds the tophat onto the strut is 40 ft lbs. the three smaller nuts that actually attach the coilover to the car are 12 lbs i believe.

Yeah these were what I was talking about. These are tight.

that center nut on the coilover has a tendency to work itself loose on the teins at least and clunk... its worth a shot on yours at least too.

mine had worked loose on my stock springs (troll should remember that)
and after i replaced my springs, they came loose again. But haven't had an issue after i tightened them again.

This may sound stupid, but when I had the car I had that Chevy Blazer emergency roadside bag full of tools on top of the spare. Make sure a socket didn't fall out and is bumping around underneath the spare.

+1 for not overlooking the obvious like jack kit, tools..etc... also... checked your exhaust hangers lately? I developed a clunk..and it was from one of the hangers rusting that holds the midpipe. Everytime i'd hit a bump...clunk clunk from the pipe hitting the underside of the car.

I have nothing in my trunk. I'll have to go back under the car and fool around with it. I'll have somebody jump up and down on it and find the noise.

sounds to me like the endlinks have worked themselves loose.

that would make sense if they weren't STi endlinks, those need a hex key to loosen themselves. I forget Jeff, did you say you regreased the sway bushings?

get the thing up on a lift and do a complete shakedown of the front end and the rear thats your best bet

+1 for torquing down the top nut on strut.
