Megasquirt?

Is anyone running it? I plan on in my DSM thought I'd get some opinions.

CHAOS 05-16-2007 10:27 AM

alot of guys in the mx6 and probe community run it with alot of success... if you want i can hook you up with my boy jordan in FL... he knows his ****. hes done probably 20 diff cars.

Nors 05-16-2007 10:32 AM

Yeah, I know its common on different cars, I think it will be a fun project to do while my car is down (no engine). Think you could pm me his email? Thanks. If I ever get a camera maybe I will show my progress to TST.

I'm friends with him and he definitely knows his stuff when it comes to the Megasquirt. I think it's an awesome system if you have the time and knowledge for it. If you shoot him a PM he might be able to set you off in the right direction.

enigma 05-17-2007 06:13 PM

It looks like a pretty good system, before i got a car with eprom for 300 bucks, i was gonna go with it. I beleive there are a few FAQ's out for putting it on a DSM, tips and troubleshooting stuff included.

At the end, I used acetone to clean the flux up, hence the dullness. Also, when I put the CPU in, I dabbed solder on 2 opposing corners. It's not a terribly tight fight, so it has a habit of vibrating loose sometimes. A friend had the issue, so I took his advice and did it. Haven't had an issue since.

Fan bypass mod (not sure if it applies to all cars or not)

Yes, that's a v3...and I can't remember. Maybe Spark and Fuel? I'll look it up and let you know.

The v3 in general is the better buy. Much more organized, and the fact that high and low imp circuits are integrated and you don't need a second board...mmm.

The only thing is, I had to change my tach resistor because it won't sense mine with the one that it comes with. I don't know what you would have to use. I had to change it to a 1k ohm 1/2watt.

Nors 05-22-2007 09:29 PM

Thanks, I'm just looking for the right place to buy because it seems like there is a few different kits you can get.

CHAOS 05-22-2007 10:49 PM

nors did you talk to jordan?

Nors 05-22-2007 11:07 PM

No not yet, I was going to wait til I ordered a kit to talk to him. But I actually might get a hold of him on AIM to ask his opinion on which site is best to order from, thanks for reminding me CHAOS.

99SL2_Modder 05-24-2007 06:10 PM

Mine was bought from DIYAutotune because I wanted the black case...so I got the v3 kit there.

The harnesses and cables and **** were from Spark and Fuel.
